🌿🍋 Sage Against the Machine 🍋🌿

Every soap maker has those batches that make them question all of their life choices… and then there are the ones that remind you exactly why you fell in love with the craft.

This one was a dream from start to finish. The batter stayed perfectly fluid, the swirl turned out just the way I hoped, and the cut did not disappoint. 💚💛

It’s scented with a custom blend of Wild Sage, Lavender & Sage, and Lemon Essential Oil, then finished with poppy seeds for a little extra character. The scent is fresh, clean, and just a little rebellious—just like the name.

Sometimes I have a plan… and sometimes I can’t decide which technique I like better.

This grapefruit and mint soap was one of those times.

Instead of choosing one swirl, I used two different swirl techniques in the same batch just to see how each one would transform the design. It’s always amazing to me how the exact same colors can create completely different patterns with just a small change in technique.

That’s one of the things I love most about cold process soapmaking—every loaf is unique, and every single bar has its own little personality.

Fresh, bright, and just the right amount of minty goodness. 🍊🌿

One of my personal favorites is this Pink Grapefruit soap. 🍊 It’s bright, fresh, and smells like sunshine in a bar.

But everyone has that one scent they can’t resist…

I’m excited to finally share one of the most practical recipes in my soap room—my Solid Lemon Dish Soap!

This bar is made with a high percentage of coconut oil, making it incredibly effective at cutting grease. I also add citric acid to help it rinse cleaner and minimize soap scum, and it’s scented with lemon essential oil, which not only smells fresh and clean but also helps tackle stubborn kitchen odors.

One thing you’ll notice in the video is that I spend a little extra time with the stick blender. That’s intentional! This recipe can be a little sneaky. The combination of high coconut oil and lemon essential oil can slow trace and even create what’s called false trace, so I like to make absolutely sure everything is thoroughly emulsified before pouring.

Instead of making one large loaf, I pour these into individual molds. High-coconut soaps harden quickly, and this saves me from racing the clock to cut them. Plus… I just think these little bars are pretty darn cute.

While this bar was designed for washing dishes, one of my favorite uses is as a laundry stain stick. Just wet the bar, rub it directly onto the stain, let it sit for a few minutes, and toss it in the wash.

📖 The recipe is included in the video! Just pause at the beginning to screenshot it, and please remember that cold process soap is made with sodium hydroxide (lye). If you’re new to soapmaking, be sure to learn proper lye safety before attempting the recipe.

A little behind-the-scenes while I finish editing my next video. 🍋

This is my solid lemon dish soap, and honestly, it’s one of the hardest-working bars I make.

Most people think of it as just a dish soap, but I also use it as a laundry stain stick. Just wet the bar, rub it directly onto the stain, and toss it in the wash. It’s become one of those products I always keep on hand.

I make these bars with a high percentage of coconut oil, which is fantastic for cleaning but also means the soap hardens very quickly. Instead of racing the clock to cut a loaf at just the right moment, I pour it directly into individual molds. It saves me the stress, and I love having perfectly sized bars that are ready to use.

Have you ever had a picture in your head of exactly how something was going to turn out… and then reality had a slightly different plan? 😊

That was this batch of Grapefruit Mint soap.

The original plan was simple: make two loaves using the same One Pot Wonder pour technique. But somewhere in the middle of pouring the first loaf, I started wondering, “What if I layered the second one instead?”

So… I changed course.

Same recipe. Same fragrance. Same colors. Just two different techniques.

When I cut them, neither one looked exactly like the swirl I’d imagined. For a moment, my inner critic wanted to focus on that.

Then I reminded myself of something I think we all need to hear sometimes: we’re often much harder on ourselves than anyone else would ever be.

These bars smell amazing. They’ll be wonderful to use. And I learned something from each loaf that I’ll carry into the next batch.

I’d call that a pretty successful day in the soap studio.

Now I’m curious… which loaf do you like better? The One Pot Wonder or the Layered Pour? 🍊🌿

Today’s soap-making experiment! 🍊🌿

I made two loaves of Grapefruit Mint soap from the exact same batch. Same recipe. Same colors. Same scent.

The only thing I changed was the pour technique.

✨ Loaf #1: One Pot Wonder + hanger swirl
✨ Loaf #2: Layered pour + hanger swirl

It’s always amazing how one small change can create a completely different design inside the soap.

Now comes the hardest part… waiting until tomorrow to cut them! 😅

🌙 Over the Moon 🌙

This soap started with a photo.

While celebrating our anniversary on the Gulf Coast, I snapped a picture of a sunset fading into twilight. The colors, the ocean, the little crescent moon hanging in the sky—it was one of those moments that makes you stop and appreciate where you are.

Naturally, my first thought was, “I should turn that into soap.”

The plan was a dark ocean, a glowing horizon, and a moonlit sky. The fragrance oil, however, decided we were working on a much tighter timeline than I had anticipated and accelerated pretty significantly.

There was definitely a moment where I wondered if this batch was about to become an expensive lesson.

But sometimes the things that don’t go according to plan still work out exactly the way they’re supposed to.

That’s true in soapmaking, and honestly, it’s true in life too.

This one is called Over the Moon, and despite the chaos during the pour, it turned out to be one of my favorite designs I’ve made so far. 🌙✨
