Sometimes it’s amazing how things are supposedly fixed! We gave an estimate on a bottom repair from hitting a tree. The insurance company informed us that their was a previous claim from the first owner pertaining to a fire. Someone did the fire repair by screwing fiberglass over the outside of the boat sandwiching the burnt areas in between, then glassing and painting over it. All old and new material is being removed, going back with structural glass in several layers, body filler then new paint. Look for finished results next week.

The Shallow Runner boat is complete. Work done.
1. New fuel tank, hoses and fill spout.
2. Old fuel tank removed and floor fixed with composite.
3. New placement of batteries and pumps.
4. Replaced rotten wood on riser box with composite.
5. Relocated riser box hatch doors.
6. New gelcoat floor in white with black webbing.

And just like that, this Shallow Runner has a new gelcoat floor. White base with black webbing for a clean look. Truth is, it takes quite a few hours to unrig the boat, prep the floor and rerig the boat. Applying two coats of base gelcoat and webbing takes a couple of hours. Without proper prep work you are setting your floor up for failure.

This Blue Wave recently had another company gelcoat the floor. Instead of notifying the customer and replacing the rotten portion of the floor in the back, they just coated over it. Customer brought it to us to figure out why the floor moved. We cut out the rotten wood and replacing with composite materials. Once fiberglassed in place we will have to try and match the previous gelcoat installation.

Some modifications in progress for the Shallow Runner. Original bad fuel tank was removed from the hull. Portion of the floor removed to take out the fuel tank was replaced with a high density composite materials and filled with floatation foam. New fuel tank is installed under the riser box. Upon removing the riser box to do the above work, we found a lot of rot on the riser. Bad areas cut out and replaced with composite. Side hatch doors of risers moved further back. Riser box is fiberglassed in this time instead of bolted for extra strength. New gelcoat tomorrow. White with black webbing.
