As the days grow longer and the scent of lavender drifts through the countryside of Provence, summer has officially arrived in France—and here at our little corner of Paris.
Across France, bustling village markets fill town squares with fresh flowers, artisan treasures, and lively conversation. In Paris, locals gather along the Seine for evening picnics, café terraces overflow with laughter, and the city seems to slow down just enough to savor every golden sunset.
The summer I turned 21, I found myself in Paris with my best friend the week before beginning our college semester abroad. The city was scorching, as it tends to be in late summer, and we spent our days wandering the sun-baked stone streets with little to no agenda. With no air conditioning to give us relief from the heat, we resorted to dipping our tired feet in the public fountains we came across during our wanderings. The cool water offered a reprieve from the stranglehold of the "chaleur," and allowed us a moment to pause and soak in the slower pace the summer heat demands of every tourist in the city.
