Is That So (Bayliss 64’) is getting her final top coat in the paint bay this afternoon, and if you caught our last update, you know just how much work went into the fairing and guide-coat prep to get her ready for this moment.

Looking at the team in action today, each painter actively spraying has a partner moving right alongside them. That second set of eyes stays on the surface of the boat making sure to catch any dry spots, hold hoses clear, and ensure perfectly even coverage from bow to stern.

Is That So ( Bayliss 64’) is officially in the paint bay for stage one of her full paint. To guarantee a smooth foundation, the paint team coats the hull in a guidecoat before taking the longboards to the surface. As they fair the hull, every inch of blue has to disappear to ensure the boat is fully sanded. If a blue stain remains behind in a localized area, it immediately exposes a “low spot” that needs attention. The paint team re-fairs those low spots until the profile is 100% faired before anything else continues in the paint process.

Take a look at Hull 40, Mama Seata’s, custom coffee table. Handcrafted entirely in-house by our interior carpentry department, this piece showcases the detail and craftsmanship that goes into all of our builds. The exterior of the table is framed in warm, solid walnut, anchoring a centerpiece top made entirely of burl. Formed by a knotty tree growth, the natural grain of the burl creates intricate, one-of-a-kind organic patterns that ensure no two pieces are ever alike.

A major transformation is happening in the Bayliss Boatyard as Mojito, a 66’ Spencer, has entered the yard for an extensive top-to-bottom refit. Her transformation has begun with a repower featuring twin CAT C32B 2025 HP engines, supported by Onan generators, Twin Disk transmissions, custom B*W rudders, and an Optimus steering system, while two brand-new Seakeeper 6s provide added stability on the water.
On deck, she is getting a fresh teak cockpit, an upgraded PBT standing platform, new underwater lights, with the help of overhauled windlass and pulpit systems. She is also getting a complete electronics refit with the help of CME, relocated centerline sonar, new transducers, and upgraded fire systems.
Inside, the living spaces are being elevated to match her mechanical power. The salon and galley feature newly veneered woodwork, custom teak ceiling accents, new sofa and dinette fabrics, and Sub-Zero appliances. While every stateroom below receives new padded wall and ceiling panels, custom bedding, new carpet, and updated granite countertops in the heads.

What a way to celebrate a fun day on the water for team Tarheel yesterday! We are excited to have taken home the Day 3 Daily Win at the Pirates Cove Billfish Tournament! 

Today, being the last day of the Pirates Cove Billfish Tournament, we want to wish tight lines and good luck to all heading out past the inlet today. A huge thank you to the PCBT crew and Red Sky Catering for throwing such an awesome dock party!

Tournament season is in full swing, and Bayliss is busy this week!

With tournament season in full swing, every detail counts. Mates are hard at work prepping gear, lines, and tackle; quick hauls are moving through the yard, and final prep is underway across the entire facility. At the same time, we’re continuing work on major refit projects in the yard, including Mojito, 66 Spencer, and more. From top-to-bottom detail work to last-minute tune-ups and major projects, we’re doing whatever it takes to keep the yard moving and ensure our fleet is running fast, clean, and ready to perform when the lines go in.

We want to send a massive “good luck” to all the owners, captains, mates, and crews heading out to compete in all of the tournaments happening over the next two weeks. See you at the dock!
