The Pajakema Union Railroad is a bridge line operated as a subsidiary of the Pajakema Holding Co. headquartered in Paulsburg, the southernmost point of the railroad itself. The Pajakema Union (Hereafter referred to as the Purr Line) generally runs in a North/South direction. It meanders through the central and northwestern part of Pennsylvania and continues through western New York, terminating in
a yard in Buffalo. The railroad interacts with traffic previously carried by the now defunct Pennsylvania RR, the Western Maryland RR, the Reading RR, the Lehigh Valley RR, the New York Central RR, and the Erie RR (Later as the Erie-Lackawanna). It was agreed to share trackage rights on the PURR Line with all of these railroads as necessary for economic reasons and better efficiency of traffic flow. Although the vast majority of traffic is freight transport, several passenger operations still exist. The PURR line is a free-lanced and fictitious and is set in a 1970’s time period. It is the results of a family “fun” project with input from all members of the family at one time or another. The history of the PURR Line grew out of the fact that the PRR and the Erie Railroad were slowly abandoning operations in the region in the 1960s. This meant that significant economic losses would occur due to the inability to move goods and people in and out of the area. The issue was of such a major concern to the leaders of the principal communities herein served by those railroads (Paulsburg, Jasonville, Kevinton, North Kevinton, And Marksport) that they formed a consortium. The Pajakema Holding Company (Named from the first two letters of those principal communities) was the result. The company then set out to acquire trackage and to establish a suitable functioning railroad as soon as practically possible and at a minimum expense of course. They successfully obtained the abandoned trackage of the PRR in this region for only $1 exchange for the PRR having no further liability in this area. A short time later, portions of the abandoned Erie RR were obtained in similar fashion. A route was established which would run from just north of Harrisburg, PA to Buffalo NY. Most of the motive power was purchased used from the PRR, and still exists on the PURR in original Pennsy Décor. Other locomotives have been leased from a variety of railroads. Some have already been painted in the various blue and white schemes of the Pajakema Union. There are a number of special features in the scenery of the PURR Line. These represent scenes and moments that have memory value to all of us in one form or another. Be sure to note some local industries modeled in adapted fashion, as well as human interactions to help us to “Remember when!”
I Sincerely hope that you are able to enjoy your “Journey” on, around, and throughout the PURR Line.
