The Freedom Riders

The Freedom Riders A Civil Rights movement that would change America forever. A two bus, 13 person, trans-continental journey to open the eyes of a segregated nation.

Career highlight: After being recognized and protected by the Kennedy Administration, we ushered on to Mississippi, where many of our members were arrested. This caused a public outrage and eventually led to the de-segregation of the transit systems that our movement took place on. Interests: Civil Rights, De-Segregation, Equality, Non-Violent Demonstrations
Activities: Road trips across the South

, non-violent protests, challenge segregated facilities, getting arrested, hoping and praying
Experience: Started with the Congress of Racial Equality, (who organized the trip to test a Supreme Court decision challenging the Jim Crow laws that resided in the South) and the Nashville Student Movement Group, (who accomplished the de-segregation of their school lunch lines)

Hello to everyone who has visited and liked this page since its creation in 2012. For transparency's sake, I feel the need to address a few things as the creator of this page:
-I am a 21 year old white woman.
-I made this page as part of a school project during my freshman year of high school and never intended for it to be an official page representing the Freedom Riders.
-I was not personally involved in this movement, nor do I have family members who were.
-This page has not been updated in multiple years, and it doesn't feel right to re-activate it now.

One of our own members, James Peck, recounts his journey along with us in his book "Freedom Ride"; "As we entered the white waiting room,... we were grabbed bodily and pushed toward the alleyway... and out of sight of onlookers in the waiting room, six of them started swinging at us with fists and pipes."

We were attacked in Charlotte-- some of us were arrested... But we pressed on! Met with MLK Jr. in Atlanta, GA!
