🚨 Long post alert ⤵
Now that the cars are gone, the planes are tucked back in their hangars, the Huey is back at its home base, and the airport is put back together and ready to welcome inbound aircraft or those just passing through, it’s time for one of the biggest gratitude shoutouts ever given on Facebook for the wildly successful Second Annual Wings & Wheels Car Show & Fly-In!
When I started this event last year, it was a fun way to introduce the airport to the surrounding public. This year, that idea grew into something much bigger than I could have imagined. And while I may be the one who spends countless hours planning, organizing, emailing, calling, worrying, second-guessing, and probably driving everyone around me a little crazy 😂 — the truth is, this event does not happen because of one person.
It happens because of an incredible group of people who are willing to jump in, help, problem-solve, work long hours, and say, “Yep, we can make that happen.”
So, from the bottom of my heart… THANK YOU‼️
First and foremost, thank you to the DCY grounds crew and everyone behind the scenes who helped pull this whole thing off.
Owen, Terry, Scott, Stanton and Levi — thank you for helping with pre- and post-event setup and teardown, staging planes, running shuttles, moving things around, answering questions, and doing about a hundred other things that most people never even saw. You guys were everywhere, and I couldn't have done it without you.
David and Sherri — thank you for taking care of the car show check-in table and keeping that operation moving.
Bernie — thank you for jumping in on shuttle duty and helping get people where they needed to be.
Cindy — thank you for being an absolute GEM at the shirt table. ❤️
Bob - for hosting the EAA table.
I knew without a doubt that each station was in good hands.
And to everyone else at DCY who helped, even if your name isn't specifically mentioned here — please know that I saw it, I appreciated it, and it mattered.
Thank you to the DCY Board for letting me run with this crazy idea last year and then continuing to support me as I tried to make it bigger and better this year. Thank you for trusting me enough to say, “Go for it.” I don't take that trust lightly.
A huge thank you to Dewayne Shake and Cannon Shake with WAMW Shake Broadcasting, Debbie Goodwin with VISIT Daviess County, Daniel Cullen and Zach at Roaming Lens Photography for all of the media, promotional work, connections, and networking that helped get this event in front of so many people.
Your connections helped get this event farther out into the community than I could have imagined — and, honestly, you also gave me a few ideas for next year's advertising. 😉😂
A very special thank you to Ed and the crew at Ed Air Services in Oaktown for lending DCY one of your portable fuel trailers so the Huey could fuel up on people... and Jet A! 😂
With the DCY fuel island smack dab in the middle of the show, it simply wasn't a feasible or safe option for the Huey to use during the event. Your generosity gave us a solution and helped make the Huey's participation possible.
And that leads to another HUGE thank you to the incredible crew of the Columbus Indiana Huey.
Your bird was the perfect addition to Wings & Wheels, and you guys absolutely rocked it.
➡ 17 FULL FLIGHTS on Saturday! 🚁
Thank you for bringing the Huey to DCY, for sharing it with our community, for giving people the opportunity to experience a piece of aviation history up close, and for being such a fantastic group to work with. Watching people's faces light up as they climbed aboard was pretty darn special.
Shoutout to and for lending DCY the shuttles to help transport guests around the airport!
And, of course, we can't forget the sponsors who believed in this event and helped make it possible.
To those who were new to the table this year and those who have continued to support Wings & Wheels — thank you. Your sponsorships helped us provide the event that people experienced, and we are incredibly grateful for every single one of you.

But perhaps the biggest thank you of all goes to the people who came.
The families who spent their Saturday with us.
The car owners who polished, detailed, drove, hauled, and proudly displayed their vehicles.
The pilots who flew in.
The aviation enthusiasts who came to see the airplanes.
The kids who probably climbed into more aircraft than they ever imagined they would.
The people who rode the Huey.
The people who bought a shirt, grabbed some food, talked with a vendor, took a million pictures, or simply walked around and enjoyed the day.
YOU are why we do this.
Seeing the airport full of people, airplanes, cars, families, and excitement was something I won't soon forget.
There were moments throughout the day when I had to stop for just a second, look around, and think… “Holy cow. We actually did this.” And that feeling is because of every single person who played a part.
Events like this don't just happen. They take months of planning, a ridiculous number of emails and phone calls, lots of moving parts, plenty of problem-solving, a few moments of “How in the world are we going to make this work?” 😂 — and an incredible amount of help from people who care.
I am incredibly proud of what Wings & Wheels has become, but more than anything, I am grateful and humbled.
Grateful for the people who believed in the idea.
Grateful for the people who showed up.
Grateful for the people who worked behind the scenes.
Grateful for the people who donated, sponsored, volunteered, flew, drove, hauled, promoted, served, helped, and supported.
And grateful that we get to call Daviess County Airport home. ✈️❤️
From me personally — thank you.
Thank you for believing in this event.
Thank you for believing in DCY.
And thank you for helping make the Second Annual Wings & Wheels Fly-In & Car Show something truly special.
Now… some have already asked.. “So… are you going to do this again next year?” 😂
My reply:
Grab that sharpie and find Saturday, September 25, 2027 and write ** 3rd ANNUAL ** Wings & Wheels Fly-In and Car Show cause, buddy, I've already got the Huey booked 😉😎
Until next year — thank you, thank you, THANK YOU! ✈️ 🚁 🏎️ ❤️
