My House MY House is a homeless and at-risk youth drop in center located in Wasilla, Alaska. Our philosophy is to offer a hand up, not a hand out.

We provide job training, housing, meal assistance, transportation, mental health services, and more to youth between the ages of 14 and 25! We are a unique non-profit that operates several for-profit ventures that offer employment and training you youth age 16-24, with preference given to homeless youth, and the goal of offering financial support back to the organization to support operating costs

and services. Youth coming for services are expected to work toward goals and make progress, accept help to remove barriers, and identify challenges personally that keep them from being successful. Our Gathering Grounds Café is open to the public from 6am-4pm, and trains baristas as well as bakers and sous chefs. The Café also offers a supper program for homeless youth from 3-4pm, hosted by community members who enjoy a meal with the youth. We use local and Alaskan made products whenever possible: Havemeister Dairy milk, Alaska Chip Company potato chips, Alaska Roastery coffee products, Summit Spice and Tea company tea, and a local supplier for Coke products. Behind the Café is a drop in center for homeless youth, with food, clothing, showers and laundry opportunities. Employment services are available on site through Nine Star, a partner provider who also helps with high school completion and GED programs. Another partner business offers car detailing, and employs additional youth. In summer months we also operate a Garden business, selling hanging flower baskets, potted flowers and vegetables to the public. Coming soon is a Steampunk themed thrift store specializing in teen clothing and employing and training more youth. Our case management services include a large referral network for off-site opportunities, Covenant House services for shelter, and caring and efficient staff in house who can assist with a variety of solutions for homeless youth. Our services include opportunities to recover identification, get a drivers license and obtain transportation to job interviews, counseling or evaluation, and legal appointments.

MORE THAN AN ID

For many of us, having an ID is something we rarely think about. But for a young person without one, that little card can stand between them and some important next steps.

That’s why one of the first things we do when a young person comes through the doors at MY House is make sure they have identification. If they don’t, we start working with them to get it.

That can mean helping gather the documents they need, navigating the process, getting to appointments, and working through the barriers that might otherwise keep them from getting it done.

Our goal is for every young person who comes through our doors to have an ID because an ID means access.

Access to employment. A bank account. Housing opportunities. Services. Transportation. And so many of the everyday things needed to start building independence.

It may look like a small piece of plastic, but it can be one of the first important steps forward.

At MY House, it’s more than an ID.

It’s a key that opens doors.

MORE THAN AN INTERNSHIP.
At MY House, helping a young person move toward independence means more than meeting their immediate needs. It means helping them find opportunities to grow, gain experience and begin building their future.

An internship may look like a line on a resume, but for one of our young people, it can mean having somewhere to be and people counting on them. It can provide purpose, responsibility, confidence, and the feeling of being valued and needed.

That’s why connecting our clients with internships, employment and other opportunities is such an important part of what we do. We want our young people to leave MY House with more than resources. We want them to have skills, experience, confidence, and connections they can carry with them as they take their next steps toward independence and stability.

An internship is one opportunity. Helping our young people build a path forward is the bigger goal.

Did you know MY House hosts Supper Club five days a week?

Supper Club has been part of MY House since the beginning. It was created to give our clients something many of us may take for granted: the feeling of sitting down together for a family meal.

Monday through Friday from 3-4 PM, our clients and young adults gather around the table for a hot meal. They’re encouraged to invite friends who may need a meal or a place to belong too.

Sometimes that simple invitation can be a first step. A friend comes for dinner, gets comfortable, meets people, and learns more about the support and opportunities available through MY House.

Supper Club is unplugged. No phones or headphones and no hats at the table. It’s a chance to eat together, talk, laugh and connect.

Our Supper Club meals are donated by members of our community. We love when our meal donors stay, sit down with our young people, and become part of the conversation. It’s an opportunity to not only provide a meal, but to connect with the people you’re supporting.

We’re LOOKING for community members, families, businesses, and groups who would like to get on the Supper Club schedule. Meals should feed approximately 25 people.If you are interested in providing a meal: Stop by the Drop-In Center, grab a volunteer application, and learn more about getting involved.

Good food, good conversation and a place where everyone is welcome. That’s Supper Club.
