An 80-year-old Milwaukee homeowner was left overwhelmed after someone illegally dumped more than 30 tires across her property on the city’s northwest side.

Kathy Hovland said the tires appeared sometime Wednesday near her garage and across her property off Fond du Lac Avenue. She initially thought only a few tires had been left behind before discovering the extent of the dumping.

Hovland said illegal dumping has been an ongoing problem in the area over the years, with people previously leaving mattresses, couches and even a piano on the property.

After the situation received attention, volunteers stepped in Thursday afternoon and helped remove the tires.

Milwaukee Department of Neighborhood Services spokesperson Jeremy McGovern said residents who discover illegal dumping should photograph the scene and check nearby surveillance cameras before anything is removed. Vehicle descriptions, license plates and video can help investigators identify offenders.

The city offers rewards of up to $1,000 for information leading to citations. Milwaukee also has about 20 surveillance cameras deployed as part of an illegal-dumping pilot program, with plans to potentially expand the program to roughly 100 cameras.

PUBLIC AWARENESS: Milwaukee residents can report illegal dumping by calling 414-286-CITY (2489). Property owners are encouraged to document evidence immediately and contact the city for assistance.

-Safely operate company vehicles to and from job sites.
-Perform efficient residential and commercial junk removal and clean-outs.
-Handle heavy lifting, loading, and disposal of various materials.

We are pleased to announce the successful completion of our largest clean-out project to date.
The 100,000-square-foot warehouse (formerly TJ Hale) required significant resources and effort, including:
• 3 semi-trucks for metal, paper, and cardboard recycling
• 12 forty-yard dumpsters
• 8 box trucks
• 7 team members
• 14 full days of hard work
This project is now fully complete.

Today, we helped a couple remove an old trailer that had been sitting unused for over 20 years.
It was in no condition to load onto a truck, so we carefully disassembled it on-site and hauled everything away quickly and efficiently.
