Honoring Our Heroes
Even though Memorial Day was Monday, our community's gratitude doesn't end when the holiday weekend does. We carry that appreciation forward every day for all our service members who gave the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country, and we carry their memory with us every day.
A beautiful piece of this legacy stands at the entrance of the Waycross-Ware County Airport in the Industrial Park. The Waycross Army Airfield Memorial marks where our airport served as an active airfield during World War II (1942–1945). Over the past few weeks, many of our local fourth graders got to discover this history firsthand during their school field trips.
We extend a huge thank you to our airport team—many of whom are former service members themselves—for sponsoring these student tours. By teaching our youth about the patriotism and ultimate sacrifice that shaped Ware County, they ensure that our fallen heroes are never forgotten.
Today, and every day, we remember, we honor, and we hold their legacy close✨
