On March 26.2026, the IOC took a step back towards sanity. In a unanimous decision, they defined the category of female athlete as limited to biological females only. They also made it clear that they are not interested in anyone’s entity’s decision to separate gender from s*x. All Olympic and IOC-sanctioned events require a one-time SRY gene screening, with a negative result required to compete as a female. No exceptions. Boom. For those of you looking for a firm answer to “what is a woman?”, you now have it.
I am in the majority that they have caught up with what most other sports have already done. Strict, biology-based definitions must be the only rule of participation. The IOC’s ruling put to death, once and for all, the ideas of the trans community that testosterone suppression was a gold star, justifying sympathy and pity. Garbage and dishonest.
Who will come next?
The latest USA T ruling from January of this year continues to have a female category, but it also has an open/non-binary category. Not only are men in this category, but it also opens the door for those who wish to deny biology. I can’t believe I typed that! We are part of an organization that denies biology. Embarrassing, but hopefully not permanent.
The ITU has not yet issued an official response. Certainly, though, they will want IOC support and come alongside. We just don’t know when.
The temptation is to wonder which entity will agree with the IOC first? The ITU or USA T?
I encourage you to join me with another thought. Let’s celebrate that Common Sense went first.
SCOTUS heard arguments in January of this year in Little v. Hecox, a case that highlights Idaho’s Fairness in Women’s Sports Act. It, too, favors common sense. SCOTUS hasn’t made a decision yet, but if common sense wins, they will agree with laws that ban transgender women from female sports.
Let’s get it right!
