The most recognized trophy in the world is only worth $1.

Here are the logistics behind why.

Traditionally made of solid bronze and then covered in 24-karat gold, technology has now taken the place of solid metal.

A 3D printer is used to build a digital Oscar, and from that a wax model is subsequently produced.

Eventually that wax is melted away, leaving a hollow object in the shape of our beloved Oscar.

Following that, they are cast in liquid bronze, cooled, and then polished and sanded.

Then, they are finalized by being electroplated with 24-karat gold.

It takes about three months to complete the entire process.

Now, while the actual scrap value of an Oscar is believed to be between $400-$650, the Academy diminishes that price from those who have acquired the prestigious award.

The Academy states, “Award winners shall not sell or otherwise dispose of the Oscar statuette, nor permit it to be sold or disposed of by operation of law, without first offering to sell it to the Academy for the sum of $1.00.”

So while each statuette costs approximately $400 to produce, its face value is just a dollar.

So the next time you drive through Starbucks and get your $7 latte, just think; you practically received the equivalent of awards that "Everything, Everywhere all at once," swept in this year's Oscars.
