Avondale Boat Yard has been operating on this site since the early days of the whaling industry. The entire Avondale area was used for farming and commercial fishing including whaling. Captain James Babcock operated the yard in the 1940's and remembered his grandfather operating a whaling ship out of this very location. In addition to Captain Babcock, the yard was run by Ted Clark from the mid 194

0's to the late 1950's. Elwot Avery, owned and ran the yard in the 1960's and 1970's. Don Conradi owned and ran the yard in the 1980's and into the 1990's. Mac Cooper bought the Yard in 1995 and continues to operate it at the present time.
