What do you think of the new variety of strawberries that some Florida growers (including JayMar) are trying out this season? The whitish berries with red seeds are eye-catchingly different looking, but most importantly, they are bursting with flavor that some describe as being a cross between a strawberry and a pineapple.

This week at Publix, we spotted lots of beautiful JayMar strawberries displayed with fixings for shortcake, so we had to make some!

We are always looking for natural ways to control pests and diseases. We participated in the BVT strawberry trial a few years ago. Bee Vectoring Technologies International Inc. is the company that developed a system utilizing bumblebees to distribute organic compounds to help inhibit crop diseases naturally and harmlessly. We continue to use the BVT system today.

Bee Vectoring Technologies said in a news release it has had successful, verified results from large commercial scale demonstrations of its proprietary crop production system, with strawberry growers in Florida.
