Aviation is well represented at the Worlds of Work Career Expo happening today at Laurel Ridge Community College. Flightline Supervisor Alyssa Gardner is manning the table and fielding curious questions about this exciting, innovative industry. This type of engagement has become part of the airport's DNA and a key to developing the "cradle to career" workforce pipeline in the Shenandoah Valley.

Worlds of Work is a career exploration event managed by the Northern Shenandoah Valley Regional Commission, in partnership with the Laurel Ridge Career Pathways Consortium, Wi******er Economic Development Authority, Clarke County Economic Development, Page County Economic Development, Shenandoah County Economic Development, and Warren County Economic Development.

“We have been very focused on developing what we refer to as this cradle to career workforce pipeline around aviation," said Wi******er Regional Airport Executive Director Nick Sabo. "And we see regional collaboration as the key to making that a reality. And why that's important is because it helps to drive interest and hopefully investment in the aviation industry here in the Shenandoah Valley."

Education is a key component in those efforts. SU's newest program joins aerospace career and technical education (CTE) opportunities available through Wi******er and Frederick County public schools and ongoing efforts at Laurel Ridge Community College, which offers classes at the technician level as well as a drone operator program.
