It’s horseshoe crab spawning season! In late May there were many reports of large numbers of spawning crabs. In just one recent late-night survey, volunteers counted over 1100 crabs at Stage Harbor in Chatham! If you want a chance to see horseshoe crabs on the shore, search at high tide along protected sandy beaches, especially in Nantucket Sound along the south side of Cape Cod. Some popular places to see horseshoe crabs in Massachusetts include:
🔹Stage Harbor, along either side of the inlet mouth.
🔹Bass River, at the end of Davis Beach Road south to the Jetty
🔹Popponesset Bay, along the western side of Thatch Island

Have fun seeking out these amazing creatures!
