PUBLIC COMMENT NEEDED — HELP PROTECT JARC TRANSPORTATION FUNDING! 🚨

Support Systems of Forsyth County Transportation is asking our community, partners, riders, families, and supporters to speak up for continued Section 5307 Job Access and Reverse Commute (JARC) funding.

The original recommendation provided $50,000 in federal JARC funding to Support Systems. The revised recommendation reduces that amount to $27,500.

JARC transportation helps remove one of the biggest barriers facing people trying to improve their lives: getting where they need to go.

Support Systems provides transportation that helps individuals access employment, education, job training, supportive programs, medical care, and other essential destinations. This transportation helps us support community programs and organizations such as SOAR, Positive Path, Fresh Hope, Goodwill, the Rescue Mission, Community Courts, as well as private individuals who need reliable transportation to work and other opportunities.

We are asking the community to submit public comments requesting that JARC funding remain at the previously recommended funding level so that transportation capacity is not reduced for the people and programs that depend on it.

📢 Submit your public comment here:
https://wsatpo-cows.hub.arcgis.com/

📅 PUBLIC COMMENT DEADLINE: September 13, 2026

Your voice matters. Please tell WSATPO why reliable transportation to employment, education, training, and essential services is important to our community.

Please SHARE this post and encourage others to submit a comment before September 13.

This is the public comment center for the Winston-Salem Area TPO, formerly the Winston-Salem Urban Area MPO.

Helping Seniors Stay Connected Across Forsyth County

For many older adults, transportation is more than just getting from one place to another—it’s the key to maintaining independence, accessing healthcare, staying well-nourished, and remaining connected to the community.

Support Systems of Forsyth County is proud to provide Senior Medical & General Transportation throughout Forsyth County, helping older adults safely travel to:

🏥 Medical appointments
💊 Pharmacy visits
🥗 Food & Nutrition Centers
🛒 Grocery shopping
🎭 Quality of Life outings and community activities
🏛️ Senior centers and wellness programs

Whether it’s attending a doctor’s appointment, picking up a prescription, enjoying a congregate meal, or participating in activities that reduce isolation, our goal is simple: help seniors remain healthy, independent, and engaged.

This program is made possible through funding provided by the Piedmont Triad Regional Council (PTRC), whose continued investment helps remove transportation barriers for eligible seniors throughout Forsyth County.

At Support Systems, we believe transportation is more than a ride—it’s access to better health, stronger communities, and a higher quality of life.

If you or someone you know could benefit from these services, or if you’re an agency interested in referring eligible seniors, we’d love to connect.

Exciting News for Forsyth County! 🚐

Support Systems of Forsyth County Transportation is proud to announce the launch of our new Behavioral Health Transportation Program, funded by Forsyth County Behavioral Health Services.

This investment by Forsyth County is helping remove transportation barriers so eligible residents can consistently access behavioral health care and remain engaged in treatment.

Our program serves eligible Forsyth County residents who are:
✔️ Uninsured or underinsured
✔️ Living outside Winston-Salem city limits where public transportation isn’t available
✔️ Waiting for Trans-Aid services to begin
✔️ Traveling to behavioral health appointments, including counseling, therapy, medication management, substance use treatment, peer support, and other qualifying services

🗓️ Have recurring appointments? We’ve got you covered!

Participants with ongoing appointments may be enrolled in our Subscription Route Program, allowing transportation to be scheduled automatically for recurring visits. This helps reduce missed appointments while making the referral process easier for healthcare providers.

We are currently accepting referrals from behavioral health providers and community organizations throughout Forsyth County.

❤️ A special thank you to Forsyth County for funding this important initiative and recognizing that transportation is a critical part of improving access to behavioral healthcare.

If your organization serves individuals who could benefit from this program, we’d love to connect.
