Here’s something we’ve learned from a few thousand move days: the fastest moves are almost never the smallest ones. 👀

They’re the ones where somebody spent twenty minutes the night before thinking about the route.

A crew doesn’t lose time lifting. They lose it walking. Around the recycling bin, past the bike in the hall, out to a truck parked four houses down, then back inside to ask which bag they’re not supposed to touch.

Swipe for the five we’d fix first. Parking, walkway, building paperwork, floors, and the do-not-pack pile. Same list whether you’re leaving a two bedroom or shutting down an office suite.

And if your building wants a certificate of insurance and an elevator reservation? Send it our way. Genuinely our favorite kind of email. 😄

A closing is a team sport, and everybody on it shapes how the whole thing feels.

The way we see our job: protect what the rest of the team already earned.

Two things we can offer from our end of it:

1. Timing. Most folks call us about 1 week prior. The ones who call around 5 weeks prior still have their pick of dates. If you mention booking movers the same week they go under contract, month-end never becomes a problem.
2. Three questions. Slide 4 has them. There are a lot of good moving companies in the Triad, and these three answers help you match the right one to the right client.

Let’s talk about your labels.

In our 20 years of moving, we still haven’t figured out how to see through your boxes.
Maybe one day.

But until then, a scribbled “MISC” with a mega sharpie isn’t going to do you any good.

The more information you put on the box, the better. Here’s our top labeling tips:

1️⃣ Write the room it's going TO, not the room it came from.
2️⃣ Write what's inside. "Kitchen" could be dish towels or it could be your grandmother's china.
3️⃣ Put the label on the side, not the top. Once boxes stack, you can’t read the top.
4️⃣ Number them. "3 of 6 · Kitchen" tells you instantly that three boxes are still on the truck.
5️⃣ If it's heavy, say so on the box. Your crew and your back will love you for it.

“What’s in the box?!” doesn’t have to be a guessing game. Give us a call, we’re really good at labels.

An hourly rate sounds like a price. It isn't.

A rate doesn't tell you how many movers are coming. Or how many hours your house actually takes. It doesn't factor in travel time, fuel, and materials, or what happens when there are stairs at the new place.

Two movers at a lower rate can cost you more than four movers at a higher one.

An accurate quote includes: crew size, hours, travel, materials, everything. In writing. Before we load a thing.

Quoted $15,000. Charged $30,000. And her stuff was already on the truck. 😳

I had a conversation recently with a sweet older lady who’s been collecting quotes for a long distance move. One of them came from a company down in Florida. I won’t say the name, but it rhymes with “safe sh*t.”

That name has come across my desk before, so I looked them up. They’re a broker, which is your first red flag. Here’s how the game works:

1️⃣ A lowball quote to lock you in
2️⃣ They sell your move to whoever will take it, so the crew showing up has never spoken to you
3️⃣ The price jumps after your things are loaded. “We re-weighed it.”
4️⃣ Don’t want to pay the new number? They’ll offload everything and keep your deposit

About a month ago a realtor called me. She’d sent her clients our way and they went with a Florida brokerage instead. Quoted 15k. On moving day it was 30k. Their whole house was sitting on a truck by then and nobody was picking up the phone.

I don’t care if you hire us. I care that you don’t get taken. If you’re moving long distance, use a company local enough that you could drive to their office, one that somebody you trust has actually used. Look up their DOT number. Ask straight out if they broker your move. Then get the whole thing in writing before anything gets loaded.

She’s booked with us now, and I think that’s because somebody finally gave her the truth instead of a sales pitch. 💗

JUNE / CHANDLER. Five years on our crew. Dad to a five-year-old girl, works weekends as a security guard, and one of the strongest guys we've got. He works out and eats clean, because in this job your body is the equipment.
