Here’s a recap of our October meeting:
1) At the November meeting, we will be holding our yearly elections to fill open officer and board member positions. Up for election are the Vice-President and Secretary roles, and six board member positions. Each of these would be for a two-year term. We also have one vacant board member position to fill with a one-year remaining term. If you are interested in serving the club as an officer or board member, please reach out to an existing officer or board member, or contact us at [email protected]. Please let us know by the end of October so that we may include you on the ballot.
2) We are still looking at options for a new location to hold our April meeting, and will likely be making a decision on that at the November meeting. The April meeting is our largest meeting of the year, with about 100 members in attendance. We are looking for a location that will accommodate that number of people plus several vendors, and which is central to our membership. The Wood Dale / Elk Grove Village area is central to membership. We are looking at fraternal organization (VFW, Moose, etc.) halls, restaurants, banquet halls, hotel meeting rooms, country clubs, churches and schools. If you have a suggestion, please let us know via email.
3) Captain Shane Jach from Schools Out Sport Fishing presented at the meeting, and the video of his presentation is available on the Members Only page.

We’ve got another great speaker for our next meeting, Tuesday, October 13th at 7:30pm. Captain Shane Jach of School’s Out Sport Fishing will be presenting. Shane will be discussing fishing in general, and his approach to fishing tournaments this past season.
Our meetings are FREE and open to the public. We meet at T-Woods Restaurant, 1051 N Wood Dale Rd, Wood Dale, IL.

The University of Illinois is working on an Urban Fishing Participation Project in cooperation with IL/IN Sea Grant. For this project, they are looking for input from adult recreational anglers who fish in southern Lake Michigan and nearby inland waterways (rivers, tributaries, ponds, marinas, and boat launches) in Illinois and Indiana.

This project focuses on understanding and increasing participation in urban recreational fishing. The results aim to help agencies and local communities improve access, prioritize improvements in infrastructure, and enhance communication strategies to increase fishing participation among current and new urban audiences.

🚨 BIG NEWS FROM JAWZON FISHING CHARTERS! 🚨🎣

We are excited and extremely pleased to announce that today we officially took possession of JAWZON 2! 🎉

Jawzon 2 is a very similar boat to Jawzon 1 — a huge fishing platform and an absolute catching machine! 🎣🐟

We are already looking forward to next season! We still have about a dozen trips left on the books this year with Jawzon 1, but we’ll also be spending the off-season getting Jawzon 2 perfected and ready to hit Lake Michigan next season. With Captain Mike Venet at the helm , many of you that already fished with me know Mike he has been a First Mate for the past few years on jawzon1

We were absolutely overwhelmed this year by our returning customers, new customers, and incredible referrals. Because of that support, we decided it was time to put a second boat into the operation.

Our goal is simple: give our great customers more opportunities to get out on the lake, catch a lot of fish, and make some great memories! 🎣🌊

We can’t thank everyone enough for the support you’ve given Jawzon Fishing Charters. We’re excited about what the future holds and can’t wait to put Jawzon 2 to work!

Next season is going to be one heck of a ride! 🎣🔥

16th Annual Salmon Unlimited IL Kids Fishing Derby - Waukegan Harbor - September 12, 2026

Yesterday we had a great day at the Salmon Unlimited IL Kids Derby, hosted at Waukegan Harbor. 123 kids participated, which is a 30% increase from last year! Each child received a tackle package, T-shirt, free lunch and a prize.

Fish that were caught included Northern Pike, Coho Salmon, Largemouth Bass, Bluegill / Sunfish, Perch, Rock Bass, and lots of Gobies. The big fish for the tournament was a 12.4 pound Carp that the winner fought for 45 minutes!

At last night's meeting, we were visited by Allie Johnson who is a graduate student at the University of Illinois, and who will be working on an Urban Fishing Participation Project in cooperation with IL/IN Sea Grant.
