Our condolences to the wife and family of Eddie Drew, who crossed the bar last Sunday. He was a dear friend to us and our father and uncles. He had just turned 92 and celebrated his 51st wedding anniversary. He expertly built and repaired boats for more than 50 years.

Replica Will Frost caulking wheels, duplicated from a caulking wheel Frost made for his grandson Carroll Lowell, our father.

Frost had made a series of the wheels for his grandsons, probably around the 1940s.

The 2nd generation of boatbuilders known as the Lowell Brothers - Jesse Lowell, Jamie Lowell, and Joe Lowell. It should be noted Jesse started his own Business in 1999 and built and designed his own boats. Jamie and Joe built together until 2019 as Lowell Brothers. These boys have all designed boats and built boats in Wood(yes that's correct they still can build in Wood) fiberglass( molded and custom one off fiberglass), cold molded and Jesse' specialty is Aluminum boats. These boys can trace the Lowell line of boatbuilding back to Gideon Lowle born in 1672 and building in North American soil prior to 1700. And the Frost side goes way back as well.

M/V Harpoon was built in 1969 by Carroll Lowell. She was designed by Royal Lowell

M/V Harpoon- As we pack up the old shop and move out we took down Harpoons temporary shelter. It's been a while since we have seen here in her entirety from a distance. I should note we stopped working on her last October. When she came in for work her original keel had been replaced some years ago. It was not a quality repair by any means. When she arrived she slumped on the bow and stearn several inches in her length. We slowly removed most of that and brought her as close as we could to her original lines. We refastened 90% of her hull, replaced all keel bolts, new stem and forefoot(fore gripe). We cut down the keel and reconfigured to be more like the original with new shaftlog, jib piece, horntimber and sternpost. We reframed her stern except for the header(only good piece left), new stern deck framing and washrail covering. We replace 24 full length rib frames in the aft, and 6 in the bow, we installed 50 short sister rib frames in between. 6 new floor timbers. Also a new stern knee. We've replace 8 planks in the stern and new garboard planks port and starboard. So with all that said this is the first chance we've had to look at the job from afar. Wish she was painted up and ready to splash, but that will come soon enough.
