🇺🇸 Pike Pools will be CLOSED Monday, May 25th in observance of Memorial Day as we honor and remember the brave U.S. military personnel who gave their lives while serving our country. ❤️🤍💙

❗Why Does Mustard Algae Keep Coming Back?❗

If you’ve shocked your pool and the mustard algae keeps returning, there’s usually an underlying issue causing it to survive. Here are the most common reasons:

🟡 Chlorine levels were not kept high long enough
🟡 CYA (stabilizer) is too high, making chlorine less effective
🟡 Brushes, floats, swimsuits, toys, vacuums, or poles were not cleaned and reintroduced the algae
🟡 Dead spots or poor circulation in the pool
🟡 Filter needs deep cleaning or sand replacement
🟡 Pool was not brushed thoroughly during treatment
🟡 Algae is hiding behind ladders, lights, steps, or inside cleaners

To fully eliminate mustard algae:
✔ Brush the entire pool daily during treatment
✔ Maintain proper shock level based on your CYA
✔ Run the pump continuously
✔ Clean all pool accessories and equipment
✔ Vacuum and clean/backwash the filter frequently
✔ Have your water professionally tested

Think you have mustard algae… but wondering if it might actually be pollen? 🤔🌼

Here’s the difference:

🟡 POLLEN:
• Usually floats on the surface or settles lightly on the floor
• Often appears after windy days or heavy pollen season
• Usually does NOT come right back immediately after vacuuming

🟤 MUSTARD ALGAE:
• Clings to pool walls, corners, steps, and shady areas
• Looks dusty or sand-like
• Brushes off, but often returns quickly in the same spots
• Can survive normal chlorine levels

If you’re unsure which one you’re dealing with, bring us a water sample to check your levels and a picture of what you’re seeing.

We can help determine the problem and get your pool crystal clear again. 💦
