Everyone tells me I overpaid.

Corner unit. Windows in every room. Two blocks from the beach. Rooftop pool. Two dogs allowed.

Here is my actual invoice for July.

Rent with wifi and cleaning twice a month. $650.
Water. $4.
Electricity. July was brutal. AC almost 24 hours. $86.
Pet fee. $16.

Total. $756.

Not in the main tourist area but absolutely worth finding.

Fresh ingredients. Great coffee. The owner runs everything herself and it shows.

If you are visiting Da Nang or living here and want something a little different from the usual spots this one is it.

Went to Maruten Sushi-Soba in the An Thuong area of Da Nang expecting a decent meal.

Was not expecting one of the best sushi experiences I have had anywhere.

Six rolls. Sake. Two Saporos. Watched them make every roll from the bar.
Fresh fish. Proper presentation. The kind of quality you expect to pay a lot more for.

Around $40 for two people. Same dinner in San Diego is $150 minimum.

Replying to Someone left this comment and I had to respond.

Boring depends on what you are comparing it to.

Compare Da Nang to San Diego or Miami and sure. No Lambos. No mega clubs. Not that city.

But compare it to most American cities and Da Nang wins on almost every level. Beach. Food. Nightlife. Cost. Weather. Things to do

They call it the Miami of Asia. I get why. Long beach. Hotels. Bars along the strip.

But if someone from actual Miami showed up here they would laugh at that comparison.

Da Nang is not Miami. It is better for a different reason.

It is the kind of place where you can actually afford to enjoy your life.

That is the whole point.

When people talk about Vietnam they usually talk about the beaches, the food, or how affordable it is.

But that is not what made me stay.

It was the people.

Construction crews working before the sun gets too hot. Grab drivers weaving through traffic. Farmers. Street vendors. Cafe staff who remember your order after one visit.

There is a work ethic here that I have come to deeply respect.

This is not meant to romanticize hard work.

It is simply a thank you to the people who make everyday life in Da Nang what it is.

One of the biggest concerns people have before moving abroad is loneliness.

Honestly, I don't think it's as big of an issue in Da Nang as people imagine.

This city has people from all over the world. Most of them were new once too, so conversations happen naturally.

There are expat groups, coworking spaces, beach sports, cafΓ©s, language exchanges, and plenty of opportunities to meet people if that's what you're looking for.

I'm actually pretty introverted. Most days I'm happy working, walking my dogs, and grabbing coffee.

But if you're worried you'll have no friends here...

I wouldn't let that stop you.
