AFTER THE STORM, THE SEA CALLS THEM BACK

This morning, Nhật Lệ Beach still carried the traces of the storm.

Branches, seaweed, and pieces of the shore had been washed onto the sand. The beach had not yet found its way back to its familiar shape.

Then the rain stopped.

And slowly, life returned.

People came to the shore to cast their nets and pull in the catch.

Farther out, one fishing boat after another headed back to sea.

I stood there watching and realized…

the sea after a storm is never truly silent.
