As the lights of Cambodia begin to glow after sunset, exploring street food by tuk-tuk offers a completely different glimpse into local life. And when the city comes alive at night, youโ€™ll weave through the small alleys around the old market, stopping by humble food stalls to enjoy authentic Khmer dishes loved by locals every day.

Sip on local beer while taking in the lively atmosphere and bustling streets before continuing to Road 60 - a vibrant street food paradise where Khmer families gather for their evening meals. Try the num banh chok (Khmer noodles) or grilled snails ๐Ÿ˜‹. Remember that Cambodians value a "low-waste" approach, so consider bringing a reusable straw or refusing single-use plastics when grabbing snacks on the go. Surrounded by the sounds, aromas, and colorful lights of the night is a wonderful way to experience Cambodia with all your senses.

Recognized as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity in 2005, Cambodiaโ€™s Sbek Thom is a majestic form of shadow puppetry that dates back to the pre-Angkorian era.
To the people of Cambodia, this isnโ€™t just a show but a sacred ritual where history is shown through a backlit screen. In the past, Sbek Thom was performed only three or four times a year for specific royal or religious events. It is now combined with royal ballet performances, masked dances as a way to honor its cultural significance.

These intricately carved leather puppets, some standing over two meters tall, are crafted from a single piece of cowhide and represent various deities and heroes from legends.
It is not to be confused with Sbek Touch which is smaller and often used for performances of folktales.
You can find information for scheduled shows in Siem Reap or Phnom Penh. If you plan to travel in January or early February, you can usually find Spek Thom performances featured in the Angkor Archaeological Park. Remember to check a few weeks in advance before your arrival in Cambodia.

Enjoy the shadows ๐Ÿค—

Alms Giving, locally known as Tak Bat in Luang Prabang, is a Buddhist Ritual. You will find monks walking the streets of Sakkaline or in front of Wat Xiengthong in the early morning from 5:30 AM to 7:00 AM. (Time can vary during the 2 periods of time: 5:30 - 6:30 between March and October, 6:00 - 7:00 between November and February).

During the ritual, locals offer sticky rice, fresh fruit, or traditional sweets with quiet devotion. In Buddhist tradition, providing these offerings is considered a significant "merit-making" deed that fosters humility in the giver and sustains the monastic community. Beyond the physical act of giving, the ceremony serves as a meditative bridge between the laypeople and the monkhood, reinforcing a centuries-old bond of mutual support and spiritual mindfulness. As a spectator, if you wish to witness this beautiful tradition, please remain respectful and strictly adhere to the local code of conduct to preserve the sanctity of the ceremony.

In Vietnam, coffee is a "daily meditation". While the West prizes speed, the traditional Phin filter honors the slow drip, producing a brew that is dark, velvety, and unapologetically bold. Itโ€™s a ritual that transforms a simple drink into a moment of peace, vibrant connection, and cozy hospitality.

Let's find a quiet alleyway cafe for peace, or a sidewalk stool to feel the city's energy with us. Either way, don't rush, the best flavors come to those who wait.

If you have a free day in your Laos itinerary and donโ€™t know what to do, why not spend it exploring mysterious ruins and the long-hidden treasure surrounding them? It might just awaken your sense of adventure.
The Plain of Jars, one of Laosโ€™ most famous and baffling attractions, is exactly that kind of place. The name is simple enough across more than 100 square kilometers of hills and mountains, researchers discovered around 2,500 giant stone jars dating back to the Iron Age in Southeast Asia (500 BC โ€“ 200 AD). But what were these massive jars used for? Some believe they once held the ashes of the dead, yet the sheer number gathered in one place makes the mystery even stranger.

Travelers can currently explore seven officially open archaeological areas, with the most popular being Sites 1, 2, and 3 near the town of Phonsavan. At these locations, travelers can walk right alongside the massive stone vessels, view the only known jar carved with a human figure at Site 1, and hike through peaceful, scenic hilltops to see how these ancient relics sit in the modern landscape.

In the windy season, especially on the full moon of the third lunar month, you can witness the Ba Duong Noi Kite Festival, where crescent-shaped kites fitted with three bamboo flutes soar high, bearing wishes for prosperity and abundant harvests. This kite-flying tradition has existed for thousands of years, dating back to the Dinh Dynasty.

Rooted in the idea of connecting humans with nature and their inner selves, these flute kites serve as a unique celestial orchestra; as the wind rushes through the precisely carved bamboo pipes, it produces a rhythmic, melodic hum that floats like a living, breathing song.

Ba Duong Noi village is located in Phong Khe commune, Bac Ninh province, roughly 30 kilometers north of Hanoi. An easy half-day trip from the capital is a good idea for your "Hanoi to-go list."

Popular since the 17th century, the dance praises the deity mothers, expressing gratitude for their blessings and praying for peace and favorable weather. While performing in full makeup, dancers sing to rhythmic songs while balancing trays of fruits and flowers on their hands or foreheads.

The dance is traditionally performed by members of the
LGBTQ+ community, specifically gay men and
transgender women, who are seen as having a special
spiritual bond with the deities.
