🚲 Almost 3,000 submissions to the Queensland Government. BYKKO is one of them.
We stand for safe, healthy and inclusive e-mobility however some provisions from the new E-Mobility Bill will cause serious harm to vulnerable communities, families, visitors, tourism industry and businesses that have invested in safe, compliant e-bikes.
The incidents that prompted this Bill were caused by unsafe use of specific types of e-mobility devices that are currently illegal to use in public spaces — not by standard 250W pedal-assist e-bikes ridden by millions of responsible people every day.
Petrol prices and the increased cost of living are hurting families across Australia. Legal e-bikes give families, visitors, and everyday people a genuine alternative — for the daily commute, the school run, the weekend ride, the resort holiday, the rail trail adventure.
Active travel should be a priority for every government right now. Instead, this Bill would:
❌ Require a driver's licence to ride a standard e-bike (only New Jersey and North Korea do this)
❌ Classify e-bikes as "motor vehicles"
❌ Ban children under 16 — even with parents present
❌ Impose a 10km/h speed limit on shared paths (slower than fast jogging)
Public hearings start this week. Committee reports 8 May.
