Today we stand in unity. As South Africa marks the , we at DLS stand in solidarity with the women and girls who suffer the consequences of gender-based violence and femicide every day.
We see you. We stand with you. We fight for you.
More than one in three South African women have experienced physical or sexual violence. In 2022-2023, over 53 498 sexual-offence cases were reported to the South African Police Service. A woman is murdered in South Africa every 2.5 hours.
We wear black, we wear purple, and we commit to doing better, in our workplace, in our homes, in our communities. Because silence is not an option.
This isnโt just a day of protest. Itโs a call to action. To speak up when we witness injustice, to hold decision-makers accountable, and to build workplaces and communities where women are safe, respected, and empowered.
