October half term can be a funny one for family travel.
Europe is beginning to feel distinctly autumnal, some long-haul destinations are heading into their wetter seasons, and the obvious family favourites can feel… well, a little obvious.
But there are some brilliant places where October is actually a fantastic time to travel.
And these are the destinations we’d be looking at if you told us you wanted to use half term for a proper family adventure — not simply find somewhere warm.
Think:
🌴 Exploring Costa Rica’s Caribbean coast, where rainforest meets the sea
🐘 Following wildlife across the Kenyan savannah
🌊 Discovering the adventurous side of Mauritius beyond its beaches
❄️ Chasing waterfalls, glaciers and geothermal landscapes in Iceland
🏺 Stepping into thousands of years of history in Egypt
The difference?
We’re not just asking “where is warm in October?”
We’re asking:
What can your family actually experience here?
What will your children remember?
And where can we take you beyond the usual tourist trail?
So if you’re still wondering what to do with October half term, here are five places we’d have on our list...
And yes, some of them are warm.
But one of them definitely isn’t. 😉
Because sometimes the best family adventure is the one you didn’t initially think of.
Which of the above would your family choose?
