It is with a heavy heart that I write this letter, as words cannot fully capture the deep sorrow we feel.

Death has taken away a genuinely warm individual, more importantly a loving wife, mother, daughter and sister, and deprived so many others, including us all, of a good friend

You have been a mentor, a confidante, and a true friend. Your genuine kindness and rare, beautiful soul touched our lives in ways we never imagined possible.

Your super duper sweet nature shone through every time you checked on our well-being, cheered us up when we were sick or facing problems, and always offered your unwavering support whenever we needed help. Even as you battled illness, you never ceased to amaze us with your strength and selflessness. Despite your own struggles, you always made sure to check on us. Your resilience and dedication were truly inspiring.

We will miss the chats more than words can express. Your constant reassurance that you were okay, even when you didn’t want us to worry, was a testament to your incredible character.

Whenever we made mistakes, you never made us feel bad about them. Instead, you encouraged us to learn and grow, and for that, we are deeply grateful.
Rest in peace, Carlene. Your memory will forever live on in our hearts, and we will carry your lessons and love always.
This is particularly a difficult and painful time for her family. In extending to them our heartfelt condolences, we wish them courage and strength to bear this irreparable loss
Life is but a moment, but yours shows how powerful a moment can be!

17 JUNE 2024: ARREST FOR HOUSEBREAKING - BOYES DRIVE LAKESIDE

At approximately 12h20 our 24 hour Control Room was alerted by the occupant of a client premises on Boyes Drive that they had observed two individuals climbing over the fence on their CCTV system.

We immediately dispatched four armed response vehicles to the premises and one suspect was detained leaving the premises while a second suspect was found hiding in a neighbour's garden.

The suspects had gained access to the residence and all stolen items were recovered and the suspects were handed over to Muizenberg SAPS for arrest.

The first suspect alerted our response officers and SAPS to a vehicle parked on Boyes Drive that was "waiting for them" and the occupant of a white Corsa parked on Boyes Drive was subsequently questioned by SAPS with a check on the vehicle also being undertaken, but he was released due to lack of evidence linking him to the housebreaking.

We commend the resident for reporting the incident so quickly as well as officers Ayanda, Mduduzi and Venge for their speedy response which resulted in the apprehension of the suspects and the recovery of the stolen goods - well done gentlemen!

17 March 2024: APPREHENSION OF INTRUDER – BRASSIE STREET LAKESIDE

At approximately 05h50 on 17 March 2024 our 24 hour Control Room received alarm activations from a couple of adjoining properties in Brassie Street, Lakeside and four response vehicles were immediately dispatched to the area.

Response officers searched the area and apprehended one suspect who jumped over a wall from a resident’s property in Club Street. The officers carried out a comprehensive search for a second suspect who had been spotted on a client’s camera footage, but the second suspect could not be found.

The first suspect was found to be carrying a toolbag with a full set of tools which he claimed he “found” and the officers carried out enquiries at the adjoining residences, but no break in was found at any of the premises.

UPDATE: We're glad to confirm that the toolbag which had been taken to our offices for safekeeping was claimed by the rightful owner this afternoon (18 March 2024).

9 February 2024: SECURITY ALERT/REMINDER

Due to a recent increase in criminal activity in our various areas of operations we would like to remind residents to take (at the very least) the following precautions to enhance your security:-

(1) ALWAYS arm your alarm when you go out (even if you are just popping down the road to buy bread and milk) – remember that your alarm is there to ‘call for help’ when you aren’t home.

(2) Arm your alarm when you go to sleep – your alarm (which always remains alert) will keep watch over you while you are enjoying a good night’s rest.

(3) Use your alarm even when you are home by arming your perimeter security – you do not need to live in a state of fear, rather look at it as being proactive and prepared – you can still enjoy being at home while your alarm system keeps watch over you.

(4) Ensure that your alarm system is functional. A faulty alarm system will leave gaps in your security coverage and may not be able to alert you or your security services provider when it needs to.

(5) Attend to requests from your security services provider to test your alarm system and/or repair faulty alarm components as soon as possible to ensure that your alarm system is fully functional at all times. This especially applies to the last point, being:-

(6) IMPORTANT: ensure that the backup battery for your alarm system battery is healthy and able to power the alarm system during mains power outages (such as loadshedding). If the battery fails during a mains power outage your alarm system will cease to function and will provide no security coverage at all.

If you are experiencing any issues with your alarm system or alarm battery please do not hesitate to contact us to arrange for a technical call to resolve the problem.

Also please always remember that if you see anything suspicious you are very welcome to contact our 24 hour Control Room for assistance – we are only a phone call away!

16 JANUARY 2024: ARREST FOR THEFT OF GENERATOR

At approximately 08h42 a client residing in Gloucester Road, Lakeside attended on our offices to report that four individuals (two male and two female) had gained access to his garage and had stolen a generator and other items, leaving in the direction of Northumberland Road.

Our 24 hour Control Room immediately sent out an alert and a description of the generator to our armed response vehicles and a search of the Lakeside, Zandvlei and Muizenberg areas was initiated by our three armed response vehicles in conjunction with the assistance of the client.

At 08h51 response officer Mduduzi alerted our 24 hour Control Room that the suspects had been sighted in Promenade Road moving towards Muizenberg and he was conducting a search of the surrounding roads. At 08h55 our Control Room was alerted by the client that the suspects had been sighted in Albertyn Road Muizenberg and the four suspects were stopped at the Traffic Department by first on scene response officer Ayanda for questioning, at which point they scattered in different directions an attempt to escape.

One male suspect was immediately apprehended by response officer Ayanda and after a headlong foot pursuit by response officers Venge and Mduduzi a second male suspect was apprehended on the beach front.

Both suspects were detained and handed over to Muizenberg SAPS for arrest, the client’s goods were recovered and the client is opening a case of theft with SAPS. We highly commend the client for reporting the incident to us immediately which enabled us to initiate a search with minimal loss of time and allowed us to apprehend the suspects and recover the goods.

We also highly commend response officers Ayanda, Mduduzi and Venge for their quick response and determined pursuit of the suspects as well as control room operator Michelene for her calm and efficient coordination of the operation – teamwork at its best – well done to all of you!!

9 February 2023: SUSPECT ARRESTED FOR THEFT OF LAPTOP

From approximately 20h40 last night our 24 hour Control Room received several calls from clients and residents in Spoon and Niblick Streets, Lakeside reporting a disturbance around the Spoon Street Park area.

Three armed response vehicles were immediately dispatched to the scene on the first call and upon arrival a suspect was found to be lying on the ground. It was reported that suspect had stolen a laptop in Bunker Road and, after the owner gave chase while alerting passersby, the suspect was stopped by residents in Spoon Street.

WCSS detained the suspect on scene, verified the details of the incident with the owner of the laptop and subsequently handed over the suspect to SAPS for arrest. The owner of the laptop will be pressing charges for trespassing and theft.

It has further been reported that the suspect had been noticed around the Lakeside area during the week and it is suspected that he may be responsible for the theft of solar lights in Spoon Street and Bunker Road the past two days.

The incident was responded to not only by security services providers and neighbourhood watch, but residents as well and resulted in the quick apprehension and arrest of the suspect. We commend everyone for their quick thinking and proactive approach – as a community we are truly stronger together - well done to all!!
