There has been a lot of noise, uncertainty and fear around Schengen visas for South African yacht crew. So, let’s bring some clarity.

Applying for a visa when you do not have a yacht job yet has always been one of the trickier parts of entering the industry. But honesty wins.

Your application should align with your reason for traveling, your facts should be straight and your behaviour on the other side, most importantly, should match.

As South Africans, we do have it more challenging, but it’s not as scary as it seems.

A short-stay Schengen visa allows you to travel. It is not an EU work permit. Schengen countries do not all have identical visa requirements or application processes, so always check the specific requirements of the country you are applying through. Before accepting a position, make sure you understand the vessel’s flag, cruising area and employment terms, and that you get stamped out accordingly. Never just assume your paperwork has been handled.

You are applying to leave South Africa without necessarily having secured a job yet. We understand that this can feel intimidating, but it does not need to be frightening when your application is honest, properly prepared and aligned with the true purpose of your journey.

Making sure you have your Seafarer’s Discharge Book before travelling to start building your network is also an important part of your preparation.

Paperwork is not why any of us joined yachting, right? But the administration before you leave is incredibly important.

Incredible to see such a beautiful industry grow 🌊

342 superyachts have changed hands in the first seven months of 2026. On the seasonal pattern of the last sixteen years, the market is heading for around 553 sales by December, second only to 2021.

Behind every sale is a captain and crew. New ownership brings new expectations, new programmes, and often a new team. Ninety-seven of this year's sales were yachts of 40 metres and over, where crews run into double figures.

After 24 years in recruitment, we have seen a great many handovers, and we are well placed to assist you through yours.

A collaboration rooted in luxury and hospitality between It’s a Vibe & Pull North Yachting 🥂

We spent a beautiful afternoon in Bantry Bay, where the Pull North team hosted an intimate networking lunch at a stunning private home, elegantly delivered by their Advanced Service Stewardesses.

Guests were welcomed with refreshing drinks before enjoying a thoughtfully prepared three-course meal by their in-house chef, seamlessly served by the stewardesses as part of their final service training before stepping onboard superyachts and beginning their international careers.

Great conversations, inspiring people, and the kind of connections that remind us why community matters.

And of course, Cape Town decided to show off, delivering the hottest day of the year. Safe to say the ocean views and great company made it all worth it. ☀️☀️☀️
