Yesterday, 4 June, Saldanha Iron Ore Terminal reached a major milestone with the successful testing and commissioning of Tippler 3.

A tippler unloads iron ore from rail wagons and transfers it through hoppers onto conveyor systems for onward handling, stockpiling, and ship loading. The commissioning of Tippler 3 marks the culmination of years of planning, engineering, and ex*****on by teams across the terminal. The tippler operates alongside a dust handling plant that captures dust during the tipping process, supporting cleaner and more efficient operations across the terminal.

Tippler 3 incorporates advanced systems integration that links planning and operational activities from the mines through to Saldanha Iron Ore Terminal. The integrated systems enable seamless information flow, strengthen train planning, and support on-time tipping. This capability improves coordination across the value chain, allowing teams to plan, execute, and manage iron ore movements with greater precision and efficiency.

As South Africa commemorates Youth Month, Pier 1 is proud to play its part in empowering the next generation of industry leaders. Pier 1 had the privilege of hosting final year students from Regent Business School as part of their Supply Chain Management programme.

The visit provided students with valuable insight into terminal operations, bridging the gap between academic theory and real-world industry practice. Through firsthand exposure to the terminal environment, students gained a deeper understanding of the critical role terminals play within the broader supply chain ecosystem.
Pier 1 remains committed to supporting learning and development by creating opportunities for future industry professionals to engage with practical operations and develop a well-rounded understanding of supply chain management.

Transnet Port Terminals Eastern Cape Terminals proudly honoured an invitation from the Department of Basic Education to participate as exhibitors at the Career Exhibition hosted in Ward 27, Zwide, Soweto. The exhibition created a valuable platform to engage with learners and community members on career opportunities within the logistics and port operations environment.

Representing Eastern Cape Terminals at the exhibition were colleagues from the People Management department, Bongani P**e, Ndibulele Lusaseni, and PECT Technical Manager, Zukisa Mboto, who shared valuable industry insight and career guidance with learners.

Learners were afforded the opportunity to interact with the team, ask questions, and gain valuable insight into the qualifications, skills, and experience required to pursue careers within the organisation and broader logistics sector, further highlighting Transnet Port Terminals’ commitment to youth empowerment and skills development.
