Behind the scenes at Cape Winelands Airport, our teams continue to work through the detailed planning and preparation required to bring a project of this scale and complexity to life.

From airport and infrastructure design to engineering, environmental considerations, road connectivity, sustainability, commercial planning and the future passenger experience – there are many interconnected elements that need to be carefully considered, coordinated and brought together.

Much of this work may not yet be visible from the outside, but it forms an essential part of preparing the project for its next phase. Every plan developed, technical detail considered and decision made contributes towards creating the foundations for the airport we envision.

And our vision extends beyond simply creating another airport. We are working towards a new gateway for the Western Cape – one that supports greater connectivity, contributes to the growth of the region and creates new opportunities for tourism, business and the communities around us.

At the same time, we want to rethink what an airport can be: a place designed around the people who use it, with sustainability, innovation and experience at its heart.

The work continues. The vision is taking shape.

The future of infrastructure in the Western Cape took centre stage last week as leaders from government, the private sector, academia and industry gathered for the inaugural Western Cape Infrastructure Ministerial Roundtable.

Cape Winelands Airport was proud to participate in the event as both an exhibitor and panellist in the discussion on "Driving Catalytic Infrastructure Investment in the Western Cape – The Future of Infrastructure Delivery." The discussions reinforced a clear message: Infrastructure is about people. The Western Cape Minister of Infrastructure reminded delegates that investment creates jobs, jobs create hope, and that infrastructure forms the foundation on which economic growth is built. The Premier echoed this vision, describing infrastructure as a "runway of opportunity" that enables better lives and unlocks long-term prosperity.

These themes resonate strongly with our vision for Cape Winelands Airport. Our expansion is about far more than aviation infrastructure. It is about creating a globally connected gateway that unlocks investment, strengthens tourism and trade, improves regional connectivity and supports sustainable economic growth across the Western Cape. As a privately funded infrastructure investment, the project demonstrates the power of collaboration between government and the private sector to deliver infrastructure that serves communities, creates employment and builds long-term resilience.

As an exhibitor at this landmark event, Cape Winelands Airport valued the opportunity to engage with key stakeholders. During the panel session, Thinking Big and Doing It, facilitated by Harry Malila, our Managing Director, Deon Cloete, highlighted the project's vision, the significant milestones achieved to date, reflecting on the l role the airport is expected to play in enhancing regional connectivity, unlocking new investment opportunities and supporting sustainable economic growth across the Western Cape.

As the project continues to gain momentum, we remain committed to working alongside government, industry, investors and our stakeholders to help realise a shared vision for the Western Cape. Through collaboration, innovation and purposeful infrastructure development, we are building more than an airport - we are helping to create a stronger, more connected and more prosperous future for generations to come.

We thank the Western Cape Government for bringing together leaders committed to building the infrastructure that will shape the province's future.

Cape Winelands Airport recently participated in the Cape Chamber of Commerce and Industry - Tygerberg Chapter event, where Executive Managing Director for Cape Winelands Airport, Deon Cloete, joined industry leaders to discuss the opportunities the airport presents for the future of the Western Cape.

As an airport, we recognise that we are part of something much bigger than aviation alone. Our success is closely linked to the success of the businesses, industries and communities around us. That is why building strong relationships and staying connected with our partners remains such an important part of our journey.

Opportunities like this allow us to exchange ideas, gain valuable perspectives and engage with the people and organisations helping shape the future of our region. These conversations are essential as we work together to unlock sustainable economic growth and realise the long-term potential of Cape Winelands Airport.

The Chamber plays an important role in fostering collaboration, facilitating meaningful dialogue and creating the connections that help unlock sustainable economic growth. We would like to thank the Cape Chamber of Commerce and Industry for providing a platform that brings together business, government and industry leaders to engage on the issues that matter most.

We value our partnership with the Cape Chamber and look forward to continuing to work together to support a prosperous future for the Western Cape.

As South Africa plans for the cities and economies of tomorrow, strategic infrastructure will play a defining role in unlocking long-term growth.

Cape Winelands Airport's Executive Director, Nick Ferguson, joined industry leaders at the 13th Annual Western Cape Property Development Forum - WCPDF, as a panellist for "Funding the Cities of the Future", led by Africa Melane - a discussion focused on the revenue streams, catalytic projects and investment priorities that will shape the next generation of urban and regional development.

The conversation highlighted a critical reality: Infrastructure is not simply about meeting today's demand, but about creating the conditions for future prosperity. From attracting investment and strengthening regional competitiveness to improving connectivity and enabling sustainable economic expansion, infrastructure remains one of the most powerful catalysts for growth.

Cape Winelands Airport is being developed with this vision at its core. As a nationally significant infrastructure project, it is set to strengthen South Africa’s aviation network while acting as a catalyst for tourism, trade, logistics, investment, and employment across the Western Cape. By improving access to one of the country’s most dynamic economic regions, the project will unlock meaningful new opportunities for businesses, communities, and future growth across multiple sectors.

As conversations continue on how we finance and shape the cities of the future, Cape Winelands Airport is proud to be part of the dialogue - and equally committed to helping drive it forward in a practical and impactful way.

AviaDev Africa remains an important event that creates a platform for dialogue, opportunities to collaborate and develop partnerships. For the Cape Winelands Airport team it’s presented a valuable opportunity to interact meaningfully with aviation and tourism leaders from across the continent and the world.

As the airport progresses toward becoming a new gateway for the Western Cape and South Africa, there is a keen awareness that it is essential that the value proposition is aligned with the needs of airlines, passengers, tourism partners, and the broader aviation industry. Events such as AviaDev Africa provide an opportunity to test ideas, gain insight into evolving market dynamics, and build relationships that can create long-term value for the region.

The conversations held this week reinforced the importance of regional connectivity, sustainable aviation growth, tourism development, and infrastructure that is designed with the future in mind. They also highlighted the significant role emerging airports can play in unlocking economic opportunity, supporting communities, and strengthening links between people, places, and markets.

The future of aviation is built through collaboration, and Cape Winelands Airport is proud to be part of that conversation.

Today, on World Environment Day, we reaffirm a principle that sits at the very heart of Cape Winelands Airport: sustainability is not a feature of this project - it is the foundation upon which it is being built.

From the earliest stages of planning, environmental responsibility has guided our thinking and shaped our decisions. As we work towards becoming one of the greenest airports in the world, we remain deeply committed to embedding this ethos into every layer of the project - from resource efficiency and climate resilience to responsible land stewardship and forward-thinking infrastructure design.

But our vision extends beyond the airport itself. We are building an asset that delivers lasting value for the Western Cape region, while honouring and protecting the extraordinary natural environment that makes the Cape Winelands so remarkable.

The future of aviation is defined by how responsibly we build the infrastructure that gets us there, and at Cape Winelands Airport, this means designing with intention, building with care, and committing to a standard that we believe the industry must aspire to. Today, we recommit to that vision - for the communities around us and for a region we are proud to call home.

In less than just two weeks, Cape Winelands Airport will join some of the most influential voices shaping aviation across the continent at AviaDev Africa.

As Africa continues to redefine the future of connectivity, trade and regional growth, platforms like AviaDev Africa represent more than industry engagement - they represent the partnerships and conversations that shape the next generation of aviation across the continent.

We look forward to connecting with global and regional stakeholders, strengthening relationships and sharing the long-term vision for Cape Winelands Airport as we continue working toward a more connected future for the Cape Winelands and beyond.

The future of African aviation is built through collaboration - and we are proud to be part of that journey.
