The adventure begins!

A month. A fleet of gorgeous aircraft. One unforgettable adventure across Southern Africa with Josh Flowers, Chelsea Smith, their good friends Chris Lammert and Keelyn Costello, and some of us from Sling HQ.

In Part 1 of Aviation101's four-part series, the journey starts with their arrival in South Africa at Sling HQ in the south of Johannesburg, meeting the aircraft that will become their companions, ZU-TSI and ZU-DFU, and taking the first steps — or rather, first flights — into the unknown.

But this trip was never just about flying…

“We came to experience Africa from the ground as much as from the air — the landscapes, wildlife, food, people, culture, remote places, and everything that happens when you venture well outside the familiar,” Josh says.

That is what makes this adventure different.

Over the next four episodes, Aviation101 will take us beyond the familiar, across extraordinary landscapes, into remote places and closer to the people, wildlife, culture and experiences that make Africa so unique.

A New Milestone For Aviation In Saudi Arabia!

We are proud to announce the successful delivery of HZ-FRA (SK245) from Saudi Arabia to France, following an international ferry flight spanning multiple countries and Flight Information Regions with Sling Distributors, Space Seen.

This aircraft represents several important firsts:
✈️ The first Sling aircraft ever built in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
✈️ The first Sling aircraft built under the direct supervision of the Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA).
✈️ The first Saudi-built Sling aircraft authorised for Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) operations.
✈️ The first Saudi-built Sling aircraft to be flown from Saudi Arabia to its owner in France.

The delivery flight highlighted the capabilities of both the aircraft and the team behind it, including:
✔️Nearly 20 hours of ferry flying powered by the Rotax 915 iS engine.
✔️Cruise altitudes up to FL160.
✔️A final leg of 1,103 NM from Heraklion, Greece, to Marseille, France.
✔️Reliable engine performance and a flight completed without technical discrepancies.

This achievement reflects the growing capabilities of Saudi Arabia's aviation sector and demonstrates what can be accomplished through international collaboration, innovation, and a shared passion for aviation.

CAUTION: Side effects of flying a Sling may cause:

AirVenture Oshkosh 2026 has officially come to a close, and what an unforgettable week it's been. Many of us are calling this our best AirVenture yet.

Our Sling family in the US, along with Sling Aircraft North America and Sling Pilot Academy, continues to grow, and one of the biggest highlights has been seeing the excitement for Sling spread far beyond our own community. Pilots from all backgrounds stopped by Sling Island to learn more, ask questions, and discover what makes Sling so special.

This year also marked some major milestones. We officially confirmed MOSAIC compliance across our entire range of aircraft and shared exciting progress on our highly anticipated next chapter: The Sling Twin.

To everyone who visited us, flew in, joined us at the Sling Ding, shared your stories, or simply stopped by to say hello—thank you. Your support and enthusiasm are what make this community so special.

A huge thank you to EAA - The Spirit of Aviation for another exceptionally well-run AirVenture. From sunrise to the spectacular night air show, it was a week to remember.

As we reach the halfway mark of the world's biggest aviation event, AirVenture Oshkosh, it's shaping up to be another incredible week for Sling.

From reconnecting with long-time friends to meeting aviation enthusiasts from around the globe, Sling Island, along with Sling Aircraft North America and Sling Pilot Academy, has been buzzing with activity. We even had the privilege of welcoming the Chief of Staff of the United States Air Force—who also happens to be a big fan of Aviation101!

Josh and Chelsea continue to draw packed crowds, with visitors filling the Sling tent to hear their stories and adventures.

On the agenda for tonight is the 8th Annual Sling Ding—one of our most anticipated social gatherings. Join Sling owners, pilots, builders, and aviation enthusiasts from around the world for an evening of great conversation, stories, and celebration.

We were thrilled to welcome Mike Reimer and Ross Ge**er, who flew their Sling TSi all the way from Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe—an incredible achievement and a testament to the aircraft's remarkable capability.
