Today is World Oceans Day. 🌊
This year’s theme is Reimagine — and from where we stand, right here on Walker Bay, reimagining our relationship with the ocean is not an abstract idea. It is what happens the moment a Southern Right Whale surfaces beside the boat and looks back at you.
That moment changes people.
We have watched it happen hundreds of times. A guest who came for a bucket list tick leaves with something else entirely — a quiet sense of responsibility toward this water, these animals, and the world beneath the surface.
The ocean off Gansbaai is home to Southern Right Whales, Humpback Whales, Bryde’s Whales, dolphin superpods of hundreds, Cape Fur Seals, African Penguins, and seabirds that travel from as far as the Arctic to feed in these waters.
This is not a backdrop. This is one of the most biodiverse marine ecosystems on Earth — and it sits right on our doorstep.
On World Oceans Day we say thank you to the ocean that makes everything we do possible. And we commit, every single trip, to showing our guests not just how extraordinary it is — but why it is worth protecting.
Whale season opens in June. Come see it for yourself.
