Portage Freight Forwarding cc - PFF

Portage Freight Forwarding cc - PFF Forwarding of loads to Namibia, Zambia and Burundi have also been very successful and helped in the growth of Portage Freight. Portage

Portage Freight Forwarding cc was established in June 2000 with the sole purpose of servicing clients with a need for sending smaller shipments to the Democratic Republic of Congo. A consolidation service was established utilising both road and rail links to Lubumbashi, Likasi, Kolwezi, Mwene-Ditu and Kananga, but with the demise of the rail structure within the DRC, the road freight division grew

constantly until today, where an average of 4 x 34 Ton consolidated loads are leaving South Africa per week. By establishing firm business relationships with other small/medium like-minded enterprises, we have been able to offer additional services such as the forwarding of goods into/out of Africa by both air and sea freight as well as the clearance of goods transiting through South Africa requiring Road Bonds. PFF endeavour to offer a full, seamless service from arranging local collection of goods with our own vehicles, receiving goods into our City Deep stores, packing and marking, customs clearance, arranging Bureau Veritas inspections then finally the forwarding to destination. A small idea has grown into a committed family business with a current staff of 12 dedicated people who have eased the growing pains, and as we leave the first 10 years behind, we look forward to the next 10 in the hope of continued growth and change and establishing of new relationships.

Johannesburg - The police have seized copper worth about R4 million from a hijacked truck which was on its way to Durban from the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The truck was spotted near Heidelberg by an air-tracking company and stopped with the help of officers from the Johannesburg metro police department (JMPD) early on Monday morning.

A hijacked truck with a load of copper worth over R4m was tracked down and recovered. The long-haul truck was travelling from DRC via Zimbabwe and was en route to Durban harbour to be shipped to China. Picture: Antoine de Ras. Credit: THE STAR
The truck was carrying copper from a DRC mine that was due to be exported to China.

“It had been hijacked somewhere around the N3 near Heidelberg and there were a couple of updates in Balfour until it got tracked by Capital Air at the M2 Main Reef off-ramp,” said JMPD spokesman Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar.

He said the police had received a tip-off from another truck driver who said the truck in front of him was being hijacked by thugs in a VW Golf and a Toyota Etios, which fled the scene.

Minnaar said the driver, who is believed to be one of the hijackers, was arrested.

Frederick Peterson, who is responsibly for security at the Impala Terminals - a company specialising in warehousing, logistics and port services in Joburg - said they had received a phone call from Zimbabwean transport officials that one of their trucks had been hijacked.

They immediately informed the police.
