A huge thank you to everyone who came out, supported us, cheered from the crowd, explored the airport and helped make the day so special. To our visitors, pilots, performers, volunteers, staff, sponsors, exhibitors and everyone who played a part behind the scenes, we couldn’t have done it without you.

Your support means the world to us, and we’re so proud to have shared another unforgettable day of aviation, excitement and community at Rand Airport.

For more than a century, Rand Airport has been an important part of South Africa's aviation story.

Officially opened in 1929, Rand Airport served as Johannesburg's primary airport before the opening of Palmietfontein Airport and later Jan Smuts Airport (now O. R. Tambo International Airport).

Today, Rand Airport remains one of South Africa's busiest general aviation airports. It is home to flight training organisations, aircraft maintenance facilities, charter operators, aviation businesses and beautifully preserved historic aircraft - making it a living centre of aviation heritage.

Whether you're training for your first licence, maintaining an aircraft or simply enjoying a day around classic aeroplanes, Rand Airport continues to inspire the next generation of South African aviators.

💡 Did you know?
Rand Airport's original Art Deco terminal building, completed in 1931, is still in use today and is regarded as one of South Africa's most iconic aviation landmarks.

Helicopter Flips with Henley Air will be available at the Airshow THIS SUNDAY! 🚁

Rand Airport is home ground for us, so this show is a special day on the calendar.
Henley Air will be offering helicopter flips at the Rand Airshow on Sunday, 30 August 2026, at Rand Airport, Germiston. The event runs from 08:00 to 16:00, with flying displays, static aircraft, exhibitors, food vendors and family activities throughout the day. A short flip is a good way to see the airfield from the other side of the circuit. So, if you’re at the show, come find us and take a quick look at Rand from above.

Remembering Those We Lost 🕊️

This Friday, 14 August, marks the anniversary of the tragic accident that claimed the lives of 13 people.

As we remember those who were lost, we invite members of the Rand Airport community and the public to visit the memorial and lay a flower in their honour.

A single flower can be a simple but meaningful gesture of remembrance, a way to pause, reflect, and show that their lives and memories have not been forgotten.
