We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who helped us Celebrate America's Truckers at the 2026 Walcott Truckers Jamboree.
The first annual Walcott Truckers Jamboree took place in 1979. It began as a modest event with a few exhibits, live musical performances, delicious food offerings, and a small showcase of classic antique trucks. At that time, the Jamboree attracted only a few hundred attendees, which is a stark contrast to the impressive gathering of over 48,000 truckers, families, and enthusiasts it welcomes today.
Despite the remarkable growth in size and scale over the years, the core mission of the Jamboree remains unchanged. It is dedicated to honoring and celebrating the invaluable contributions of America’s truck drivers. Their dedication and commitment to hauling the nation’s freight deserve recognition and appreciation, and the Jamboree is a wonderful opportunity to do just that.

❄️ FROM RAIN TO SNOW: WHAT HAPPENS AS THE AIR GETS COLDER?

Ever wondered why a winter storm can start with rain and eventually turn into snow? 🌧️➡️🌨️❄️

As colder air moves in, the temperature through the atmosphere gradually changes — and so can the precipitation reaching the ground.

🌧️ RAIN — Snowflakes form higher up but melt completely as they fall through a warm layer of air.

🌨️ SLEET / ICE PELLETS — The flakes partially or completely melt, then refreeze into small ice pellets before reaching the ground.

🌨️ GRAUPEL — Supercooled droplets freeze onto snow crystals, creating soft, white pellets that can look like tiny balls of polystyrene.

❄️ SNOW — When the entire layer from the cloud to the ground is cold enough, the snowflakes remain frozen all the way down.

And here's the important part: you don't necessarily get every stage in order.

The atmosphere can transition directly from rain to snow, or you can briefly see graupel, sleet or a mixture of precipitation types during the changeover.

That's why watching the temperature profile above the ground is so important when forecasting snowfall.

The colder the entire atmospheric column becomes, the better the chances of those flakes actually reaching the ground as snow. 🏔️❄️
