Greg Meaker – A Lifetime in Africa's Wild Heart
There are people who choose a career, and there are those who answer a calling. For Greg Meaker, that calling has always been the African bush.
Greg's journey into conservation and tourism began in what was then South West Africa (now Namibia), where he worked with the national parks service. Stationed in places such as Keetmanshoop, Swakopmund, and the Naukluft region, he developed a deep understanding of Africa's landscapes, wildlife, and fragile ecosystems. Those early years laid the foundation for a lifelong commitment to sharing the continent's natural wonders with others.

In 1987, Greg returned to South Africa and spent several years leading overland expeditions throughout Southern Africa. His knowledge, practical experience, and love of the wilderness soon led him to the renowned Sabi Sabi Game Reserve, where he worked as a ranger. In 1991, he accepted a position at Casa do Sol in Hazyview, managing its game reserve and conducting safaris for guests visiting the nearby Kruger National Park.

But Greg had a bigger dream—to build a safari company that reflected his own values of professionalism, authenticity, and personal service. In August 1992, together with his wife Tracey Meaker, he founded Indaba Safaris with a single minibus and one guide. Through years of dedication, that modest beginning evolved into African Safari Adventures, an owner-operated company that has become a respected name in Southern African tourism.

Based in Hazyview, on the doorstep of the Kruger National Park, Greg and Tracey have spent more than three decades helping visitors experience the extraordinary wildlife, landscapes, and cultures of Southern Africa. Their company offers tailored safaris, guided tours, and travel planning across South Africa and neighbouring countries, built on the belief that every guest deserves a personal and unforgettable experience.

A proud alumnus of Springs Boys' High School, Greg remains a passionate ambassador for the African bush. His love of nature extends beyond his profession. Friends know him as someone who enjoys rock music, blues, jazz, good conversation around a campfire, and the companionship of dogs.
Those interests reveal a man who values both adventure and human connection.
Greg Meaker's story is ultimately one of passion, perseverance, and stewardship. For more than forty years, he has introduced travellers from around the world to the beauty of Africa, inspiring countless people to appreciate and protect its wildlife. His legacy is measured not only in successful safaris, but in the memories he has helped create and the respect for nature he has fostered in generations of visitors.
