Come and join us! Many of our guided overland tours and self-drive safaris include some of the most scenic routes in Southern Africa. You do not have to be experienced in overlanding, safaris or driving a 4×4 vehicle off-road. I have many years of experience and have made the stupid mistakes; I will guide you every step of the way. Many of our guests will drive an off-road 4×4 vehicle for the first time when they go on our adventures, don’t be intimidated by this; it will be an experience you will never forget! After a recent health scare and surgery, Jean is doing well, recovering strongly and getting back to normal.

We kept things quiet while we waited for answers, but thankfully the news has been good.

And yes… Jean is back.

From the red sands of Mabua to our last camp together at Molopo… what a way to wrap up the adventure!

Today brought us wildlife, a few unexpected camels, the iconic Kaplyn road towards Tsabong, a border crossing back into South Africa — and, because what would an overlanding trip be without it, a little repair work along the way!

And then the Kalahari gave us one final show… thunder, lightning and rain welcoming us into Molopo.

Tonight we share our final dinner together, before saying goodbye to our new Waypoint Adventures friends. From open pans and wild tracks to campfires, laughter and unforgettable sightings — it’s been one hell of a journey.

Kalahari, you’ve given us memories to take home.

The slow days are often the ones we remember most.

We headed out early for one last drive around Mpaya Pan before settling into a wonderfully lazy day at camp. And when you slow down, you start noticing the little things — the birds, the sounds, the quiet moments and the stories that unfold around the fire.

Today was also a birthday celebration, with pannekoek for brunch and a rotisserie leg of lamb with roosterkoek for dinner.

There was plenty of laughter, good food and stories shared around the campsite — the kind of moments that make an adventure about so much more than the places we visit.

Tomorrow we travel our final day together.
Somewhere along this journey, strangers became friends.

And suddenly, saying goodbye is going to be the hardest part.

Day two in Mabua was all about slowing down and soaking it in.

A relaxed brunch beside one of the pans, plenty of wildlife along the way, and that unmistakable Kalahari feeling that makes you forget about the clock.

Back at camp early, the evening was quiet and relaxed… but with one eye on the darkness.

After last night’s surprise visit, everyone was hoping the king might decide to pass through camp again. You never quite know what the Kalahari has planned for the night.

Today was all about slowing down and settling into the Kalahari.

We left Mpayathutlwa Campsite, set up camp at Mabuasehube Campsite and headed out onto the sandy tracks for a little exploring. No wildlife sightings today, but beautiful weather and plenty of time to simply enjoy the space around us.

Back at camp, the fire was lit and the braai was on… until a male lion made sure we knew he was nearby.

Needless to say, we headed into the tents a little earlier than planned!
Tomorrow, the adventure continues…

Two days in the Kalahari

Two days of hot Kalahari days, cool evenings and that wonderful feeling of being completely surrounded by wilderness.

Animal sightings may have been few and far between, but the moments we did get were special — and there was plenty of time to enjoy the scenery, the trail, the open spaces and good company.

The Bosongolo Trail brought some fun and adventure, with regular stops along the way to stretch the legs, take in the views and simply enjoy being out here.
Back at camp, our resident jackal came by to check on the humans…

Then the wind started picking up, the sky became a little more dramatic and the possibility of thunder changed our plans. The braai was abandoned, fires stayed unlit and everyone headed to bed early.

But nobody was quite ready to switch off completely…

Flashlights were kept close, ears tuned to the darkness and eyes occasionally scanning the pans — just in case something decided to make an appearance.

And somewhere out there, we’re hoping to hear the mighty roar of the king of the Kalahari.

Sometimes the best wildlife moments are the ones you wait for…

Tomorrow, Mabua awaits.

One of those Kalahari days…

A beautiful sunrise. Red sand under the wheels. That quiet feeling of being somewhere wonderfully wild.
And then the sightings started…
A lioness. A giraffe standing tall against the landscape. Tortoise making its slow-and-steady journey. Herds of springbok, blue wildebeest and gemsbok appearing along the way.

There was a picnic, a little history, plenty of wildlife — and, unfortunately, a Springbok loss to Australia.

But somehow, when you’re surrounded by this much space, wildlife and wild beauty, the score doesn’t seem quite so important.

Back at camp, the essentials were sorted, the shopping done, and now there’s nowhere else we need to be.

Just good company, a crackling fire, a braai and the Kalahari stretching out around us.

This is what Desert Dream is about.
Not just getting somewhere… but being completely present when you get there.

The calm before the adventure…

Today is all about slowing down, settling in and welcoming our Desert Dream #14 adventurers as they arrive at Molopo.
The sun is shining, there’s a cool breeze in the air, vehicles are finding their spots and camp is slowly coming alive.

Tonight, we’ll gather around the fire for our first braai together, share a few laughs, go through the tour briefing and get ready for what lies ahead.

Tomorrow, the waiting is over.
The Desert Dream begins.

And from here… we’re keeping a few surprises up our sleeves.

The road is calling… and the excitement is building!

As we make our way towards the start of Desert Dream #14, the landscape is already giving us a little taste of what lies ahead — green fields after the recent rains, beautiful open skies and water shimmering here and there alongside the road.
Could this be a little sign of what’s waiting for us further north?

Tomorrow we meet our Adventurers, fire up the convoy and head into a landscape where the roads get wilder, the horizons get bigger and wildlife becomes part of the journey.

We’re looking forward to new faces, new stories, campfires, sandy tracks and those unforgettable moments that simply can’t be planned.
The countdown is almost over...
