Waypoint Adventures - Your Overlanding Partner Come and join us! We love travelling off the beaten track. Most of our trips will be on gravel roads, jeep tracks and the lesser known routes and trails.

We have created exciting travel adventures, experiences and holidays with your own or a rented vehicle on one of our guided overland tours and self-drive safaris tours and expeditions. We have more than 20 years experience in 4x4 Travel, Overlanding and Safari Adventures...

Our guided overland tours and self-drive safaris were created to share experiences and to provide comfortable, more personal

and interactive travel holidays. Our self-drive adventures are designed to provide you with an affordable product; whether it’s a budget or an upmarket holiday, we cater for those who are looking for a value-for-money safari experience…

Come and join us! Many of our guided overland tours and self-drive safaris include some of the most scenic routes in Southern Africa. You do not have to be experienced in overlanding, safaris or driving a 4×4 vehicle off-road. I have many years of experience and have made the stupid mistakes; I will guide you every step of the way. Many of our guests will drive an off-road 4×4 vehicle for the first time when they go on our adventures, don’t be intimidated by this; it will be an experience you will never forget! I will share and teach as much as I can and by the end of the tour you would have forgotten your first day nervousness. WELCOME TO A PLACE WHERE WE WILL MAKE YOUR DREAMS COME TRUE…

OUR IN-BETWEEN TOUR BREAK

We didn’t plan to spend our week between tours in Pretoria.

But sometimes the unplanned stops become part of the journey.

After Lakes & Legends, some serious vehicle problems brought everything to a halt. What followed was actually quite remarkable — watching incredibly skilled people doing what they do best. Problem-solving, repairing, fabricating, working late and finding a way to get us back on the road. The “The Old Lady wants to retire!”

At the same time, our Waypoint team kept everything else moving. GoTimes, magazines, designs, communication, maintenance, packing and handovers. André and Anél made it safely home and started preparing for the Flower Tour, while we prepared for The Wildest Dream.

So our “break” wasn’t much of a break. 😅

But it was a week of teamwork, good people and a real appreciation for the skills behind the scenes that keep these adventures moving.

Tomorrow, two new journeys begin — the Flower Tour and The Wildest Dream.

Happy Friday.

OUR NEW WAYPOINT ADVENTURES WEBSITE IS LIVE

It’s not 100% finished yet — but neither is any great adventure.

We’re still building, refining and connecting some of the systems behind the scenes, but the doors are open and we’d love you to come have a look.

Explore our journeys. Read our Campfire Stories. Meet the people behind Waypoint. And get a feel for the community we’re building around travelling Africa.

But we also want your stories.

If you’ve travelled with Waypoint Adventures and have a story worth telling, a joke, a memorable moment, a lesson from the road, or simply a photograph that tells a story all on its own, send it to us. We’d love to start sharing more stories from the people who make up the Waypoint tribe.

Visit the new website:

https://www.waypoint-adventures.co.za/

And while you’re there, subscribe to our newsletter.

Our first edition of LET’S GO lands on 1 September — with stories from the road, Behind the Scenes, Tribe Talk, expedition news, travel tips and all the little things happening around Waypoint.

This is more than a new website.

It’s a place for our journeys, our stories and our community.

Come have a look. Subscribe. Share your stories. Become part of the tribe.

EXPLORER’S DREAM #1 – THE ULTIMATE RECCE

SOUTHEAST ANGOLA

Mavinga • Luengue–Luiana • The Unknown

22 May – 6 June 2027

4 Spots left…

Another overwhelming response and incredible support from everyone — THANK YOU!

We are genuinely excited to see how many of you are interested in joining us on this adventure.

There is, however, one very important consideration:

WE ARE ONLY TAKING 10 VEHICLES.

Because of the remote nature of this adventure, the challenging terrain and the fact that this will be a proper exploratory recce, we deliberately want to keep the group small and manageable.

With the amount of interest we have already received, we also realise that we may have more people wanting to join than we have places available.

We therefore need to make this as fair and transparent as possible.

Once bookings officially open, the 10 available vehicle places will be allocated strictly on a FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED basis.

We don't want to have to choose between friends, previous Waypoint guests, new guests or anyone else who would love to join us. The fairest way is to give everyone exactly the same opportunity.

TOUR PRICE

R23,950 per person sharing

R30,000 per person – single supplement

Children under 12 – 50% of the applicable tour price

TO SECURE YOUR PLACE

We will require BOTH:

1. A fully completed application form; and
2. 100% payment of the tour fee upfront.

A verbal commitment, WhatsApp message or indication that you would like to join will unfortunately not reserve a place.

Your booking will only be regarded as secured once we have received both your completed application form and full payment.

The first 10 completed and fully paid vehicle bookings will secure the 10 available places.

We know that this is a little different from our normal booking process, but with the level of interest already being shown and only 10 vehicles being accepted, we believe this is the fairest way to handle it for everyone.

So please keep watching the group closely.

Once we release the full information and officially open bookings, it will be first come, first served.

SOMETHING BIG IS COMING…

And it’s getting closer…

A BRAND-NEW 16-DAY WAYPOINT ADVENTURE!

SOUTHEAST ANGOLA

Mavinga • Luengue–Luiana • The Unknown

22 May – 6 June 2027

We are going somewhere not many have been before.
A journey into the unknown.
Remote roads. Tough tracks. Challenging terrain. Unexpected obstacles. Places far away from the normal tourist routes — and places very few overlanders ever get to experience.
And we already know one thing…

THIS ONE IS GOING TO BE TRICKY!
This is going to be a PROPER OVERLANDING ADVENTURE.

In fact… THIS COULD BE THE ULTIMATE RECCE!

The kind of journey where we don’t have all the answers before we leave.
Where information is limited.
Where tracks are uncertain.
Where conditions will dictate what happens next.
Where we might arrive at a river, a washed-away road, an overgrown track or an obstacle and have to figure out another way.
There will be no perfectly polished itinerary telling us exactly what every day will bring.
That’s the whole point.

We have a destination.
We have an idea.
We have maps.
We have waypoints.
And we have 16 days to go and find out what is really out there.
We’ll explore.
We’ll investigate.
We’ll adapt.
We’ll probably turn around a few times.
We’ll find roads that work — and roads that don’t.
And somewhere along the way, we might just discover the route for one of the greatest Waypoint Adventures yet.
But there is one important consideration for this adventure…

NO TRAILERS OR OFF-ROAD CARAVANS ON THIS ONE.
Because of the type of terrain, the remoteness and the uncertainty of some of the tracks we intend exploring, we need to keep the convoy as capable, manoeuvrable and self-sufficient as possible.

You’re going to need a properly prepared 4x4 vehicle with LOW RANGE.
You’re going to need a long fuel range.
You’re going to need proper recovery equipment.
You’re going to need to be self-sufficient.
And perhaps most importantly…
YOU’RE GOING TO NEED A LITTLE BIT OF GUTS!

This is not going to be an adventure for everyone.
And that’s exactly what makes it so exciting.

16 DAYS.
REMOTE.
CHALLENGING.
UNPREDICTABLE.
VERY FEW HAVE BEEN THERE.
THE ULTIMATE RECCE.

Four unforgettable nights in Gonarezhou brought our Zimbabwe adventure to an end — and tonight we are officially back in South Africa.

After crossing Beitbridge, we arrived at Rainmakers Campsite to the most incredible welcome and an absolute feast around the table. What a wonderful little gem and definitely a recommendation for anyone looking for a stop just before or after the Beitbridge border.

Gonarezhou gave us wild landscapes, elephants, baobabs, incredible camps, long dusty roads and memories that will stay with us for a very long time.

Tonight, tired, dusty and very happy, we sit around the fire back on South African soil.

What a journey. What an adventure. What a way to end Lakes & Legends #2.

Let’s Go.

Three nights in beautiful Gorongosa, and exactly what we needed.

A fantastic campsite, wonderful staff, evenings around the fire, amazing game drives with some incredible sightings, dinner at the restaurant, and time to simply slow down, camp and rest.

We loved the park, the people and the peaceful days around camp. Our time in Mozambique has been really special.

Today we crossed the border into Zimbabwe and the Lakes & Legends adventure continues as we make our way towards Gonarezhou National Park.

From one wild place to the next. Let’s Go!

What. A. Day!

We said goodbye to Malawi this morning and headed for the Mwanza–Zobue border, where patience was definitely required!

Once across, the adventure continued with some of the worst potholes we’ve encountered yet — bumping, shaking and testing both vehicles and Adventurers!

After a long day on the road, a few fuel and food stops, and crossing the Zambezi River a few times, we finally rolled into Kukutana Lodge Campsite.

Tired, dusty and very happy to be here — Mozambique, we have arrived!

Now it’s time to put our feet up, relax and enjoy a well-earned evening around camp.

Today was all about slowing down and enjoying Lake Malawi!

We started with a delicious breakfast at the beach bar before heading out onto the lake for snorkelling, traditional food on the island and the unforgettable fish eagle feeding.

We also had a little adventure hiccup when one of our Adventurers needed a quick visit to the local clinic. After a few tests, some medicine and a good rest, he’s back on his feet and ready for the next adventure!

Back at camp, we were treated to the prettiest sunset before ending the day with delicious food at the restaurant.

Another beautiful day on the road!
