️ THIS IS BERG AERO WORKS — PART 1: OUR HOME

Every aviation business has a story. This is a little bit of ours.

Tucked away in Himeville, in the Southern Drakensberg of KwaZulu-Natal, you'll find our hangar.

It's not a big corporate aviation facility. You won't find a reception desk or a boardroom full of executives. What you will find is a collection of aeroplanes, tools, projects, workbenches and, more often than not, a couple of guys talking about aeroplanes. 😂

This is where we fly from, work on projects, build things, learn new skills and come up with ideas that sometimes turn into something worthwhile.

Berg Aero Works started with one aviation enthusiast, a passion for general aviation and a desire to build a business around something he genuinely loves.

Since then, the story has grown. Scott Williams has become my business partner, bringing his own aviation experience, building skills and enthusiasm for all things aeroplane-related.

Between the two of us, we're building something that goes beyond simply selling aircraft and aviation products. We want to support the people who build, fly, maintain and enjoy these wonderful machines.

From aircraft kits and backcountry aeroplanes to Stewart Systems fabric covering and our growing involvement with the Zlin Aviation range, there's plenty happening — and we're only getting started.

So, if you've ever wondered who's behind Berg Aero Works, this is us. Two aviation guys, a hangar full of possibilities, and a shared passion for flying.

✈️ Aviation Terminology Lesson #1: Hangar vs Hanger

There are two words that sound almost exactly the same, but in aviation they have very different jobs.

HANGAR
Noun
A building where aircraft are kept, maintained, repaired, built, admired, discussed at great length, and occasionally moved around several times because someone has decided to work on something else.

HANGER
Noun
Something you use to hang your clothes on.

So, just to be clear:
✈️ Aeroplane → HANGAR
👕 Shirt → HANGER

At Berg Aero Works, we're particularly fond of the first one. Our hangar at Himeville has seen its fair share of aircraft, projects, tools, flying stories and questionable ideas over the years.

And if you've ever spent time around aircraft, you'll know that a hangar isn't really just a building.

It's a workshop.
It's a meeting place.
It's an aircraft clubhouse.
It's where projects begin.
It's where problems get solved.

And occasionally, it's where perfectly good weekends disappear.

So now you know.
Hangar ≠ Hanger.

Although, if your hangar is anything like ours, there may well be a few clothes hangers hiding in there too. 😂
