In recent months, Minister in the Presidency for Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities Sindisiwe Chikunga issued a public advisory to women and girls using e-hailing services in South Africa - verify your driver, share your trip details and stay alert.
The advice we agree with, but the burden of safety should not rest with you.
It can imply that the app you're using cannot be trusted to have done the vetting or background checks on your behalf. It can imply that when you get into a car with a stranger, the person most responsible for what happens next is you.
That shouldn’t be how transport safety works, which is why at Secure Express, it isn't.
The Minister's advisory is a call to caution because the sector has not earned trust. Secure Express exists so that customers wouldn't have to be their own security team.
Here’s what the Minister asked for, and what we already do:

The Minister is right to advise caution as the reality of transport in South Africa demands it. But the point of Secure Express is that safety is not something we ask you to manage on our behalf.
