Pretend play looks like nothing. It is doing a lot. 👩‍🍳

When a child stands at a play kitchen and decides what is cooking, they are sequencing steps, naming ingredients, taking turns, and holding a whole imaginary world in their head while their hands do something else entirely.

That is planning, language and fine motor control, all disguised as making you a cup of tea you are then obliged to drink. ☕

Chef kitchens earn their space in a playroom because the play grows with the child. At two it is opening and closing every door. At four it is a full restaurant with a menu and strong opinions about the service.
