🚲🌍 Tour de Skom with Langa Bicycle Hub 🌍🚲

We are excited to welcome students from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) for a unique learning experience in Langa!

Together, we will be exploring how to upgrade a bicycle stretcher that can support people with special mobility and commuting needs in our community. This collaboration brings together innovation, community knowledge, and a shared commitment to creating more inclusive transport solutions.

Through cycling, community engagement, and hands-on learning, we hope to develop practical ideas that improve access, dignity, and independence for people who face mobility challenges.

At Langa Bicycle Hub, we believe that everyone deserves safe and accessible mobility. We look forward to learning, sharing, and building solutions together.

On World Bicycle Day, we are putting children at the centre of mobility by teaching Cycling and Road Safety Education at Langa Bicycle Hub.

We are partnering with and hope to grow this project, but we need your support. In Langa, many children run across roads without looking, while vehicles often speed through our community, creating a serious safety risk.

Through this programme, we will teach children about road safety, provide Learn2Cycle classes, and create opportunities for them to engage, play, and move safely in public spaces and parks.

Together, we can help build a safer environment for children and promote a culture of safe and sustainable mobility.

Today we had a great visit from SnapScan at the Langa Bicycle Hub Pump Track as we explored a potential partnership around events and community impact. We are excited about the possibilities of working together to create more opportunities on two wheels for young people and the broader Langa community.

🚲✨ The Langa Bicycle Hub team was honoured to be invited by the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) (HSRC) to attend the CGH Rising of the Youth event at Gool House.

The event was co-designed and organised by the youth of Cissie Gool House together with Urban Studies students from the University of Cape Town as part of the u’GOOD programme, which focuses on the well-being of young people in the Global South 🌍💚

The programme connects three sites in Cape Town:

📍 Langa Bicycle Hub
📍 Vrygrond Peace Garden

It also builds international collaboration with partners in Bogotá, Colombia 🇨🇴 and Delhi and Jaipur in India 🇮🇳.

A special congratulations to Sive Tyulu and Nande Madlebe from the Langa Bicycle Hub team for winning first prize vouchers during the event 🎉👏 Your achievement made us proud!

Today we had a visit from our new intern Ryan and colleagues from Hopkins University in USA🇺🇸 with the .

We had a fun ice breaking activity and showed them around the Hub Operations.

Langa Bicycle Hub attended the King Langalibalele Drive Open House Road Upgrades event at Sthebe last Saturday 🚲🚶‍♂️

We shared our inputs on walking and cycling improvements for the draft design. It’s encouraging to see the City of Cape Town prioritizing safer streets, better walkways, more greenery, and local heritage along the route.

Thanks to the Enviromental for the hard work of the designs and stakeholder engagement.

We’re grateful to be part of these conversations and will keep pushing for Langa to be more walkable, cycle-friendly, and sustainable.

Last Saturday we celebrated the birthday of Tom -Zingca Tom with a very special gift — her own bicycle.

This celebration also marks a strong partnership to support children with cycling safety education in Lower Crossroads, alongside the great work being done by Nofemele Raheem.

We are excited to continue creating safe and active spaces for young people through cycling and community programmes.

The Bicycle Hub is also open every weekdays and weekends at the Pumptrack Sports Complex for:

1. Basic Pumptrack sessions
2. Bicycle maintenance training
3. Cycling safety lessons for all ages

Everyone is welcome to join us and be part of building a safer and healthier cycling community in Langa.

In April, we were invited by kollab at Mfuleni, Afrika Tikkun Foundationto learn more about their partnership. The following week, Afrika Tikkun will visit Langa Bicycle Hub to learn about our work and explore potential collaboration opportunities, including cycling safety programmes, bicycle mechanic training, bicycle delivery training, and support for their bike repair hub.

We look forward to building this collaborative partnership with both Afrika Tikkun and Kids Collab.
