Somerset House Grade 7 Quest draws to a close.

Reflecting on an incredible week of . What a privilege to share these memories with the kids, and wonderful teachers, of this great school.

Physical challenges were faced head on and mental battles were overcome. Hoping we now take the life lessons learnt, back into society.

Well done kids. And well played Mr Chev, Mrs Hughs, Mrs Bolton, Miss Mlonyeni, Mr Presence, Mr Hall and Mr O’Brien.

Freedom Trail 2027 here I come. So excited and privileged to be raising funds for Project Rhino and Grant Fowlds. I believe the most important and impactful conservation initiatives nowadays, are re-wilding land, and creating corridors between protected areas. Our wildlife needs more space, and nobody is closer to the coal face than Grant, who works tirelessly throughout Africa. We’re going to focus our fundraising efforts to benefit the Eastern Cape, South Africa. Our route rides right through it. The Addo to Amathole projects could, if successful, see a contiguous protected area of nearly three million hectares (seven and half million acres.)

🦓🦓A celebration of Zebra - some of my favourite images from the last few years. I think these dazzling creatures are one of the most photogenic animals on safari, and make excellent monochrome subjects!

Lochinvar National Park, Kafue Flats, Zambia

This off-the-beaten-track park is an absolute gem, and I have such fond memories of a trip there many years ago.

How about all those African Skimmers in the first pic? And the bounding Kafue Lechwe in the second? The third pic is one of my favourite photos - abundant flocks of Black-winged Pratincoles dancing in the sky.

Happy Earth Day 🌍

I puzzled about a picture to post today…and have settled on Antarctica 🇦🇶. It is the most beautiful and pristine place on our planet. The best thing about Antarctica though, is that it belongs to everyone. Not any single country owns Antarctica. Some countries have made claims - but all of these claims have been suspended. That’s good news for Antarctica, and good news for the Earth.

Antartica belongs to Mother Earth. And I think that’s just wonderful.

Frank Wild, who was Sir Ernest Shakleton’s right hand man, and very experienced Antarctic explorer, famously said “Once you’ve been to the white unknown, you can never escape the call of little voices, calling you back”. I fully understand and agree with him - I yearn to be back down there.

A fun few days out guide training with .

We’re onboarding new freelance guides, gearing up for our busy season. Day one we focused on the city, and all the history, culture and hidden gems. Day two saw us exploring the winelands, heading off the beaten track to some of our favourite farms 🍷
