Today, Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) hosted the Departments of Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, and Transport for an oversight visit at the Port of Cape Town to assess operational performance, port resourcing, and infrastructure readiness.
Led by Deputy Ministers Hon. Seiso Mohai and Hon. Mkhuleko Hlengwa, the delegation received an update on key projects aimed at enhancing capacity and efficiency.

As a key gateway for South Africa’s agricultural exports, the Port of Cape Town connects local producers to global markets. The planned expansion of the Cape Town Container Terminal, including upgrades to the container stack and a truck staging area, will increase capacity from 1 million to 1.4 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs). The port is also seeing positive results from the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) wind study, with improved wind prediction systems now supporting better planning and faster recovery during adverse weather conditions.

The visit concluded with a guided tour of key operational areas, providing the delegation with firsthand insight into ongoing infrastructure upgrades and port activities.
