Traffic Freeflow owns and manages the Pointsmen Project operating in the Cities of Johannesburg and Tshwane. We alleviate traffic congestion by providing highly trained, dedicated and passionate pointsmen. The initiative, having launched in 2005, is undisputedly South Africa’s most successful and longest running Public-Private Partnerships. The project is a collaboration between the Metro Police

Departments (JMPD and TMPD), the Cities and Johannesburg and Tshwane and Private Enterprise, namely OUTsurance, who remains the launch and largest sponsor of the initiative. Additional sponsors allow for the continual growth of the project.

We have each other's backs. 🤝

Traffic FreeFlow and the OUTsurance Pointsmen work in tandem with the JMPD to keep Johannesburg moving. The partnership started in 2004, when talks with the JMPD began. The first Pointsmen went out on the road in 2005.

The JMPD trains and accredits our Pointsmen. That training is what prepares them to manage a busy intersection safely.

Many Pointsmen go on to join the JMPD. Others move into the TMPD, SAPS, and Provincial Traffic Departments. Point duty gives them the experience and the record a law enforcement career is built on.
