19,389 miles and 1746 photos…
Tanzania was an absolutely amazing adventure - I can’t even begin to describe how amazing this experience was. I met some amazing people, made some lifelong friends, and fell in love with yet another country.

Here are just a handful of my photos from the 13 days I was there. I’ll post more soon.

The most powerful thing about Hiroshima is that it forces you to hold two truths at the same time.

This is a place where humanity showed its capacity for unimaginable destruction. Standing beneath the hypocenter marker, walking through the museum, reading the stories of people just like you and me, looking at melted glass, fused metal, and photographs of a city erased in an instant, it is impossible not to feel the weight of what happened here on August 6, 1945.

But what is probably most noticeable about Hiroshima is that it is not a monument to death - it is a story of resilience and rebirth.

Today, children and families live, work, laugh and play throughout the city. Trees grow where there was nothing. Millions visit not to celebrate victory or relive tragedy, but to remember. The city has chosen to transform its deepest wound into a message of peace for the world.

As a history teacher, places like this remind me why studying history matters. My biggest fear is that people want to whitewash history, to remove everything bad that might make us feel uncomfortable. But history should sometimes make us uncomfortable. It should challenge us, upset us, and force us to confront the consequences of human choices. Because those feelings are what will ensure the horrors of the past will never happen again.

First full day in Tokyo was a success. We visited the Meiji Shinto Shrine, and did a walking tour around Shibuya, had an earthquake, and then brought a group back into the city at night!

(Yes I said we had an earthquake)

Our first student adventure after COVID took us to Portugal and Spain in 2022—slow mornings, time on the beach, and unforgettable sights. It was the perfect mix of relaxation and exploration, and a reminder of how good it felt to be back out in the world together.

And we are heading back in 2027! I loved this itinerary so much that it is the first time I have repeated a trip!

Check the link the the bio to RSVP for the interest meeting.

In two trips to South Africa, I’ve never been this close to lions. Watching these massive, majestic animals move through their natural habitat was absolutely surreal.

The sheer power they exude, even while resting, is something i felt to my core. It’s one thing to see lions in a zoo… it’s something entirely different to lock eyes with one in the wild. (Stayed tuned for some of the other animals we encountered).

After leaving Cape Town, we traveled to Johannesburg and toured the Soweto Township - one of the areas where Black South Africans were forced to live under apartheid.

We visited the Hector Pieterson Museum, Nelson Mandela’s home, and the Apartheid Museum. These were powerful stops that brought South Africa’s painful history into sharp focus.

Hearing the story of 12-year-old Hector, who was shot by police during the 1976 student uprising, was especially heavy. It was a sobering day, and a reminder of the deep scars left by injustice and the strength of those who fought to overcome it.
