Title: NEFALE S: Message wishing Grade 12s good luck in exams

GOOD LUCK MESSAGE FROM THE CHIEF EXUCTIVE OFFICER (CEO), NEFALE SHUDUFHADZO, TO GRADE 12 LEARNERS

On behalf of the VHUTAVHATSINDI YOUTH DEVELOPMENT ACADEMY and the people of the VHUTAVHATSINDI REGION, I wish to take this opportunity to wish this year's Grade 12s good luck in their exams.
Though several challenges still lie ahead, we as the leadership of VYDA are satisfied that a culture of leaning and teaching has returned to our schools.

Throughout this year we saw evidence that our schools are indeed working. We saw the strengthening of a partnership between learners, teachers, principals and school governing bodies in an endeavor to ensure that conditions are in place for effective learning and teaching.

Teachers and learners remained in class while principals and school governing bodies worked hard to ensure our schools are managed properly. Parents continued to participate in the education of their children and communities took ownership of their schools.

We are therefore justified in saying that this has been a very successful year for our learners. We have no doubt that this success will be reflected in this year's matric results.

We are also confident that this year's Grade 12s will again make us proud by improving on last year's pass rate of 75.4 %.

Once more, good luck all those who will be sting for their Grade 12 exams.

Regards
Nefale Shudufhadzo

SAR goes against the grain, gives SA investment rating

By
Kabelo Khumalo
26th Sep 2022

CEO of SAR, Sifiso Falala

Africa’s newest sovereign rating agency, Sovereign Africa Ratings (SAR) has rated South Africa’s sovereign credit ratings status at investment grade with a medium risk of a default, going against the grain as the three major ratings agencies – S&P Global, Fitch Ratings and Moody’s – have all placed the country’s bonds deep into the sub-investment territory.

This was SAR’s very first rating report after its launch on Friday.

The rating agency said one of the reasons behind its decision was that South Africa’s sovereign rating is “underpinned by resilient macroeconomic and non-economic fundamentals”.

The report also noted the country’s stable financial sector as a plus to its rating action. It also noted that South Africa is facing headwinds in terms of rising interest rates, energy adequacy and prices as well as increasing inflation prospects.

“SAR’s ratings take into account South Africa’s performance in terms of both macro-economic and non-economic fundamentals. The ratings take into account the direction and assessment of the South African economy in terms of key indicators and variables such natural resource endowments, climate change risks, social and socio-economic fundamentals, economic growth, government debt (domestic and foreign currency denominated), gross loan debt and contingent liability profile, budgetary performance and adequacy of fiscal flexibility, external performance, monetary and fiscal policy stance, liquidity position and institutional and governance framework,” the rating report reads.

SAR said its ratings are also supported by the country’s reconstruction and recovery plan, which aims to address some of the country’s challenges such as high unemployment, poverty and income inequality, energy and water crisis, as well as deteriorating infrastructure and logistics networks.

SAR said the elevated risks to South Africa’s fiscal outlook include:

A global and domestic economic slowdown, resulting in lower revenue and greater calls for fiscal support.
Rising borrowing costs due to inflation and higher global interest rates.
The materialisation of contingent liabilities from state‐owned companies.
Higher-than-budgeted compensation increases.
SAR’s ratings on South Africa, which differs from that of the top three rating agencies that control around 95% of the credit ratings in the financial markets, has raised question on whether it be a trusted source of information.

But SAR CEO Sifiso Falala dismissed concerns that the entity will be a “sunshine” rating agency.

The National Treasury at the time of going to print had not released a statement on SAR’s rating report as it normally does when the big three release their reports on the country’s sovereign debt.

Spokesperson for the ministry of finance Mfuneko Toyana was unreachable.

The Financial Sector Conduct Authority earlier this year approved the licence application of SAR to operate as a credit
rating agency.

Tshilisano Masindi, an artist from Makwarani in Thohoyandou, is yet another example of the Vhembe region’s extraordinary riches as far as talented artists are concerned.

Tshilisano (20), better known by the brand name for his art, Muchilos, has been drawing since he can remember. His amazing pencil and charcoal sketches and vibrant canvas paintings (which he only recently started to experiment with), leave people speechless with admiration.

He said that, as a young boy, he used to spend all his free time bent over drawings. “When I was in my primary schooling, I realised that I had a gift for drawing. Whenever we had a free period, I would be drawing,” he said.

Tshilisano does not have to stand back for his peers as his love of creative art, and the determination that went with it over the years, has brought him on equal footing with other artists. “It feels fantastic to be an artist. I enjoy inspiring others to believe in young people and give them a chance through my work,” he said.

His own artwork was influenced by the work of artists such as Thabelo Phungo from Khubvi and Bonolanga Siaga Luheni Mapuloni. However, Halatedzi Munzhelele from Tshilungwi, he said, motivated him the most to focus on improving.

Tshilisano matriculated at Vhutavhatsindi Secondary School in 2020 and is presently a second-year student at Mavhoi TVET College, studying for his diploma in civil engineering.

In June this year, he won first place in an arts and culture competition. “I represented Mavhoi College and ended up winning the competition. I was overjoyed and felt very proud of myself,” he said.

He aspires to have his artwork displayed in international art galleries one day. “I’d like to show off my work internationally. I want every piece of art I create to be well known and be classified among the finest of all time,” he said.

Tshilisano’s art catalogue is available on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter (Muchilos Rsa), or WhatsApp or call him on 064 081 9897.

To: Matric 2021.

Former president Nelson Mandela once said: “Education is the great engine of personal development.” As matric final exams approach, I would like to wish all matriculates’ the best of luck in their exams.

I urge them to make us proud by unleashing their true potential and excelling in their exams. I also urge both teachers and parents to offer their undivided support to these pupils so that they can automatically be self-motivated.

To everyone writing Grade 12 exams, I humbly ask you to put everything on hold in pursuit of your goal, which is to do well in the final exams. You need to be committed and study hard because success is shy, it won’t come out when you are sitting there watching it.

Know that by passing your matric exam, you will have taken the first step towards pushing back the frontiers of poverty in our country. Never mind the challenging circumstances at home, the sun sets to rise again.

Study hard and be ready to tackle your exams, for the world has a habit of making a way for those who know where they are going. At the same time, bear in mind that my good wishes will never see the light of the day if you don't work hard. Put on your boots and walk like a soldier because you will be rewarded one day. Your success is our pride.
