42 YEAR OLD KAFUE MAN APPREHENDED FOR VANDALISM AND THEFT OF RAILWAY PROPERTY
A 42 year old man of Kafue District has been apprehended for vandalism and theft of Zambia Railways Limited (ZRL) property in the Ngwenya Quarry area along the Kafue - Chipongwe railway section.
The suspect, identified as Given Haampola of Shikoswe, Kafue, was apprehended on Friday, 21 August 2026, at 09:45 hours by Super Infrastructure Cooperative Patrolman Stanley Musanto, with the assistance of a concerned citizen, Mr. James Kaumba.
At the time of his apprehension, the suspect was found in possession of thirty-two (32) Pandrol Clips belonging to Zambia Railways Limited, valued at K2,080.00.The recovered items were being carried in a sack.
Pandrol Clips are railway fastening components used to secure rails firmly to railway sleepers, helping to maintain the correct position and stability of the track as trains pass over it.
Following his apprehension, a team of security officers accompanied the suspect to Kafue Main Police Station, where he was handed over to the Zambia Police Service for further legal action.
The suspect has since been detained in police custody pending investigations into the alleged offences of vandalism and theft of railway property.
Zambia Railways Limited strongly condemns acts of vandalism and theft targeting railway infrastructure, as such criminal activities pose a serious threat to the safety of rail operations and the security of public assets.
