It is with profound sadness and a deep sense of loss that we learned of the passing of our dear friend and colleague Georgina Kamanga of DNPW - I had the privilege of meeting Georgina in 2014 while working with Richard Ladkani on the Netflix documentary, The Ivory Game. This impactful and eye-opening documentary filmed in Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, and the Far East, shedding light on the critical issue of poaching, which was rampant at the time, and highlighting the bravery of those fighting against it. Georgina, you were a true champion - a remarkable Zambian woman who stood out in a crowd. Your infectious smile and petite frame belied your unwavering determination and strength; having witnessed you in action, I wouldn't want to be a poacher under your watch. Alongside Wrightwel Nyirenda and under Richard's remote direction, we contributed to the production of a short video for the Just Giving page, aiming to raise crucial funds for your cancer treatment in India. I know you fought valiantly against cancer with every fiber of your being. Today, Zambia and the conservation community have lost a shining champion… May your spirit find peace and rest, free from pain. Farewell, dear friend 🙏🏼 🐘 🇿🇲 🕊️
