Today is , and there is no better place to honor these true emotional giants than Hwange National Park, Zimbabwe.

Hwange is home to one of the largest elephant populations on Earth, where you can witness their extraordinary depth of intelligence and emotion firsthand:

🖤 Profound Grief: They form unbreakable lifelong bonds and actively mourn their lost herd members.

👑 Matriarchal Wisdom: Herds are led by the oldest female, who remembers critical migration routes and hidden water sources during tough droughts.

💪 40,000-Muscle Trunk: Strong enough to snap trees, yet gentle enough to wrap around a distressed calf in a loving "hug."

World Hyena Day !

This beauty ran alongside our vehicle in Etosha for several 100m. The reward for such a long run is a refreshing drink! What a good sighting...thanks Etosha.

Females Rule the Clan: Spotted hyena societies are matriarchal; females are larger, more aggressive, and higher-ranking than males, running clans of up to 80 individuals.

More Cat than Dog: Taxonomically, hyenas are part of the suborder Feliformia, making them more closely related to cats and mongooses than canine species.

Bone-Crushing Bite: They possess incredibly strong jaws, allowing them to crush and consume the bones, hooves, and horns of their prey.

Misunderstood "Laugh": The famous "laugh" or giggle is not from joy; it is a vocalization indicating excitement, nervousness, or frustration, often heard when they are fighting over food or being attacked.

Skilled Hunters: Despite their reputation as solely scavengers, spotted hyenas are highly skilled, cooperative hunters that catch the vast majority of their food.
